Hi
I'm very happy to join this forum. I come from a background in wooden ship modelling but I've got kind of tired about how long it takes. Years ago I made racers from the inter-war era by Testors and William Bros. Pretty lousy kits...I'm still fascinated by that era and sea planes especially - Scheinder Cup. then just a few weeks back I discovered Wingnut Wings who are just down the road from me. My goal is to do their version of the Felixstone - a true flying boat but will build towards that by starting with an old Williams Bros kit. need to learn how to use an airbrush for a start.

This looks like a great forum and for my first journey here I'll probably ask more than answer but in the future hope to reverse that.

Kits I have to build:
Wedell Williams Racer - Williams Bros 1:32 - underway
Curtiss RC3 - Fine Molds 1:48 - Studio Ghibli adaption
Savoia S21 - Fine Molds 1:48 - Studio Ghibli adaption
Albatross Dva - Wingnut Wings 1:32
Sopworth Snipe - Wingnut Wings 1:32
Macchi M5 - HPH 1:32 (love this plane!!)

So there is some work to do and a lot to learn!

I am not far from you, in Tawa so its good to have another kiwi on board. Do post some photos of your models to share with us (if you feel like it)

Now trying an attachment. A cannon on my 1:64 Fly build. There are eighteen of these which is why I get tired of wooden ships...Heavy ropes on this are 0.5 mm. Lets see if this works - new here!

Alistair, welcome from Colorado. I have a Caldercraft kit waiting, but this forum and WWI subjects will keep me occupied for a few more years. This is perhaps the best modeling forum going. Glad you've joined.

Welcome to the Forum! I am sure you will get the answer to any questions asked. Your cannon looks terrific. I don't think I would ever have the patience to do 18 of those beauties!

Definitely seems like I've landed on a really good forum.

Have been looking at the builds here - which are amazing - and realise that learning painting and paint effects is going to be my biggest challenge. Rigging doesn't worry me...

The husband of a friend at my work is a carpenter with Peter Jackson's WW1 plane replica rebuilds. I'll have to hit on him for a look around the factory and report back. I'm guessing that taking photos won't be allowed.

I'll get building soon - have to finish the Wedell Williams first which ain't WW1 then the Albatross or Sopworth Snipe or Hansa.

Hallo Alistair, I was making wooden ships (...better say boats, I don't like huge vessels, just like traditional fishing and working boats from all over the world) until I decided to step back to plastic modeling, not because they are slow (I amslow as well on these plastic models) but because I did not have room in my new house for a Woodworks workbench.

Happy to read the two Porcorosso planes in your list, I made them and are really funny and easy to build, especially if you liked the movie, the kits are perfect.

Welcome on board and as everybody here I am looking forward to watching your works.
