You have done a great job with the camo, the paint colours are excellent, and the cafe is looking excellent.

Des.
My thoughts exactly, Edo!
Cheers,

Excellent work! And the wrecked building is coming along very nicely. This is sure to be a great diorama.

Hallo friends! Thank you very much for your comments, very much appreciated!!! :D
I'll show you some progress on the house. For the bricks I use cork. Not much care is needed to cut the cork as it will be damaged and worn in the next pases. Also I find that a bit of disomogeneity adds to realism.
As a side note, I have discovered that, after all, simmetry, uniformity and care are not that important when it comes to finishing. I mean: of course Des, Bo and others have shown us what care and attention to detail can bring to a model, actually bringing it to life. But sometimes i feel that this is not how reality actually unfolds. Trees grow asimmetrically, bricklaiers do commit errors, things wear differntly and colours fade in some areas and in others seems just new.
So, when it comes to lay cork bricks don't measure too much your eyes are the perfect tool to see if the lines are straight and if not, well, this is just how in the old times happened to have leaning towers!  ;)

ok enough talking, now some picture...

on the inside, as you can see, not everything is covered in bricks, as it will covered with plaster, and afer that maybe some wallpaper....
we'll see.

next some colours on the bricks (red ochre oil) and mortar.
till then

ciao
edo

What a simple but wholly effective idea - cork for bricks!

I wholly agree that the Mk 1 eyeball is as good a measure as any for many things Edo - i this case you have proved the point.

Looks very good up to now, Edo.
That will add an interesting point to your dio.

I love the cafe, Edo, but that camo scheme is exquisite!  Very nicely done!

Hi all!
Thank you for the knd comments! much appreciated! ;D
I went ahead with the construction of the cafe. After gluing the bricks, I painted them in red ochre oil, after it dried I picked some lighter and darker shade just to give it a little variation.

Afer it dired I mixed some plaster with black gouache. Remember to add also some yellow to warm up the "mortar". Cover the wall with the mortar and then clean the bricks. Here is the result, hope you like it!

And this is the interior...

This is all for now!
ciao

Really great work on the bricks and mortar, Edo, and your wood really looks like aged framing as well. This is really starting to look good, nicely done so far!

If that was suitably mounted it could pass for a real old wall with wood framing that had been knocked about. Super modelling.

And again I just can say "thank you" for sharing another breathtaking modelling technique, this time for creating realistic walls and bricks. This cork bricks are simply amazing and the way you added wood and plaster - it looks so much better than many many expensive resin cast aftermarket ruins! Very well done and a really clever idea!

Lovely work you show here. Results like this make it clear that it is more satisfying to build a house/ruin rather to buy one that you could see on every third diorama.
