Cutting super thin decal strips?
« on: November 29, 2015, 07:31:38 AM »
Hello there.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to cut super thin decals strips. When I say thin, I'm thinking something like .01"/.25mm wide strips!  :o

My first thought is to make some kind of parallel blade knife that uses really thin blades. Another option would be doing it freehand with a ruler, but I would think the parallel blade set up would be better.

Any ideas?

Has anyone ever come across ultra thin blades that I could use for a parallel cutter side by side?

Thanks, Chuck.

Yes, Chuck a parallel cutter does exist. You can get one from Etsy, or probably many other places.

Here's a photo and a link:

Thanks George!  Although taping two #11 blades is a cheaper alternative, I can see much use for this.

I own Olfa's  Stencil Cutter.
A very handy tool to have in your box.

Anything is possible with a hammer!  :o

The cutter comes with 3 inserts for widths ranging from 0.5mm up to 1.5mm...I'm sure one of the inserts could be manhandled into the sort of thing you require.

Thanks Von B!

I was able to jury rig a dual razor blade set up that does the same kind of thing. The thinnest strips it's able to cut are .15mm.
