did I ever mention how much I love my Grex airbrush?
« on: November 16, 2015, 06:35:38 AM »
I royally screwed up my earlier attempt at airbrushing an instrument panel. As I added the thinner and paint to the paint cup I couldn't figure out why the paint started pouring out of every opening on the airbrush. Out the rear needle opening, the front tip, down the trigger and out the air fitting! Only later did I realize it didn't have the needle put it (DOH!)  :o

After a couple of choice curse words, I went online and found a video on complete disassembly of the Grex Tritium TS airbrush. With much trepidation I followed the steps, put everything (but the O rings) in the ultrasonic cleaner and gave it a thorough cleaning inside and out. I then followed the videos instructions on reassembly. After all that I thinned my paint again and sprayed down a nice smooth coat of RLM 66.  ;D

No issues with taking the airbrush apart, putting it back together and having it all work as it should. Now maybe I just haven't had the pleasure of using a good airbrush before, but I sure like how this one not only performs, but is easy to fully disassemble, reassemble and rebound after such user abuse.

Thanks Grex!  ;)

Disassembling something for the first time is always very daunting, and the reassembly can be just as daunting, but now that you have done it once the next time will be a piece of cake.

Agreed.

I have done the same with several of my past airbrushes, but I was amazed at how easy it was for this one.

Bravo Chuck.

I made the big mistake of reluctantly lending my first ever posh airbrush - a Badger, to a friend who begged me to let him use it to finish some wretched Formula One model. When it came back, dirty, he'd also broken a key internal screw thread. We never really resolved this. He was a lot bigger than me.

Best wishes

Thats too bad Nigel. It seems like people like that are out there everywhere unfortunately.

Did he try and say it was like that when you lent it to him? I've had "friends" like that.

No. He just brazened it out saying that it was fine when he returned it!

A lesson learned. But after several visits to other brands in the intervening years I've recently treated myself to a wonderful Iwata HP-CH Hi-Line.

I purchased a Grex Tritium Pistol Style airbrush last year and love it.  Easy to handle, comfortable for long jobs and a breeze to clean.
I shall never forget my admiration for that German pilot, who single handed, fought seven of us for ten minutes. I saw him go into a fairly steep dive and so I continued to watch, and then saw the triplane hit the ground and disappear into a thousand fragments...James McCudden

I got an Iwata Neo, a very basic starter brush, a few months ago. Love it, it's made such a difference.

I've used an Iwata HP-SB plus (the one with the side mounted cup) since the early 80's when I was in art school. I've tried others, but I always come back to this one. I actually have two connected to my compressor right now, one for acrylics and one for enamels and lacquers.
