Decals for the WNW RE8
« on: July 10, 2012, 06:21:25 AM »
Just received the latest Windsock Datafile on the RE8 - a great compliment to the kit, as usual. Like the Albatros volumes it got the creative juices flowing, so watch this space for a new set for the RE8, featuring many of the machines in the new Datafile plus a number of others, some surprisingly colourful....... Details coming soon.

Hi Rowan
I am keen on an RE8 from the Middle East theatre in PC12 instead of PC10. I think there is one on the back of the original Datafile

Hello James,

Fine idea but I need to dig around a bit for the latest wisdom on ME colours for the RFC - I have a feeling that the PC12 idea might now be viewed differently in the light of the latest research. No doubting that it looks nice and would make a change from PC10.

I don't reckon there's much of a chance you'll be doing these in 1/48 scale?  For those of us with the Aeroclub kit?  :-\

So, nobody here seems to be very excited by the 32nd RE8! Something of a pity, as I think it's one of WNW very best kits to date and a worthy subject for commemoration in a build. Well, I shall keep the faith and bash on with producing these. We have some pre-orders coming in, so lets hope they'll be a "slow burn" set; there have been others like that....

Hi Bud, well of course I'd love to do these in 48th - and John's kit certainly deserves something a bit special but I wonder just how many I'd sell?? If I do a low volume run they'll be quite expensive... I'll see what support there is.

Excited - yes, especially the four trainer/pet options, it's so nice to see a bit of colour instead of the usual PC10 scheme, and having the enlarged fin available is also a great asset. I agree with you Rowan when you said that the RE.8, and I believe along with the Bristol F.2b, are two of the best kits produced by Wingnuts.

I certainly hope more interest developes, Rowan.  These are some beautiful sets.  I'd love to do Burgess's bus or 'Marjorie'.
Cheers,
Bud

Oh, I'm interested, especially in the more colourful marking schemes. I just have to get the kit first.

Cheers,

Chris

While the RE8 is not my favourite WnW model, I must confess that I really liked that "mesopotamian" option... it´s different than everything else already shown for this aircraft.
While the trainers are a great subject, I´d prefer war machines.

Thanks for all those comments, you blokes... As I said, we have some pre-orders coming in but it's also helpful to get some direct  feedback. Although I ultimately decide to do what I want to do and hope that others share my enthusiasm for a particular subject, I still have no real way to judge what will sell and what is going to sit on the shelf. And that has a bearing on how many I decide to print, which in turn affects the price, of course. So any feedback here (of whatever flavour) is very welcome.

I'm also very much aware that we have lagged behind on previously announced projects and there may well be a totally  understandable element of "yeah, very nice but I'm still waiting for........." from some. Rest assured we will be getting back on track as quickly as we are able.

Thanks again

Rowan

I know this is a bit off topic but have you considered a generic set of stencils/ serial numbers / mfg logos etc for various types? Mostly a black and white affair I would think.

I'll be having a set as the RE8 is on my next order with WNW along with a Bristol. Would be early next year by the time I get round to an order though as I have the Bristol and an Albatros to plough through before then.

...... Unless the next GB is RE8s or trainers or ugly aircraft or ...
