Big Great War aircraft news from Airfix

The sprues look nice and delicate,and lots of fine detail,plus full length flooring and transparent trailing edges.This is really exciting for   1/72's.Bravo Airfix.

Wonderful news! I already have a BE2c in vac but it came with additional parts for a BE12, so now I can do both! The E.II could be interesting too...

 Since they're coming out in Jan 16, I wonder if we can expect a couple in 17 and 18 of models from those years too....or maybe that's wishful thinking....

great news will buy both as i like to knock up a quickie occasionally and a reasonably accurate be2c and einie fit that bill 4 sure. looking at the sprues notice they put the leprieur rockets attached to the outer interplane struts this will ensure good wing alignment

The computer modelers at Airfix are doing some incredible stuff. If you read the posted article and click on the Laser Scan link they talk about scanning actual airplanes, helicopters, etc. using something called LIDAR (Light Radar) and creating extremely accurate computer models that are then used as a basis for their plastic kits.

The possibilities are endless. Scan an actual airplane then 3d print it in any scale. Soon, Bo's future will be here.

Wingnuts has been laser scanning real aircraft for some time now as part of a co-operative venture with The Vintage Aviator I read earlier. Apparently TVAL uses the scans to make full size subjects and WnW uses them for the kits. Smart thinking.
I am super excited by Airfix returning to WW1 subjects and although I don't do 1/72 now ( fumbly old fingers and aged eyesight) I will be buying the new kits to show support for Airfix and encourage them to do more WW1. Hopefully they will upscale to 1/48 too.
Airfix's decision shows they believe 1/72 is still a dominant market in their sales territories.
I started my WW1 modelling with Airfix kits 50+ years ago and it's so reassuring to know they will still be popping out new WW1 Subjects next year. Well done Airfix!!

That is great news about the B.E2!  All we need now is a 1/72 scale Captain Triggers figure 

I've stalled with watching the second series of "Wings" on DVD, cab't quite remember where I got to. 

As for the kits, it is great that Airfix are producing new tooling - the older models were not great but these could be winners..

Just looked at the sprue shots - the control surface trailing edges look very thin.  Certainly worth a look!

Me too, it's great news, mainly because of what it suggests about Airfix's priorities, ie. that WWI does indeed have a place in their 'new era' kits.
If they can revisit the DH Tiger Moth, and produce a delightful little new tooling as they recently have, one can only hope they might revisit some of their earlier Great War subjects. Some were good once, but look painfully crude now.

What we can expect is that with the new technology, these kits will be pretty accurate, if lacking a little detail being 1/72 scale; but crucially, from the point of view of drawing new modellers in, they'll be straightforward to build.

The latest technology should make these very worth while kits but will lend themselves to super detailing for those who wish to do so. It's fantastic to see Airfix get back into WW1 aircraft model kits and like Dave, although I don't build in that scale, I will buy the kits just to support Airfix and give them the message that WW1 kits are worth investing in.

   Like many here I was first "hooked" into the WWI Era by the old Airfix 1:72 Kits longer ago then I'd care to admit to. I agree totally with the thoughts expressed here, this is good news for the WWI Aircraft Hobby and, hopefully, Airfix is not yet done. The newer technologies available provide great opportunity to improve some if not all of their original offerings and new subjects as well. I'm a little past the ability to work in 1:72 Scale but I do see this as a sign of good things to come in our Hobby. Good on Airfix!

My hope is they'll do exactly that. They've re-done a bunch of subjects for which there are older (and pretty nasty) models, so I truly hope the DH.4 and RE.8 will be revisited. That's what stopped me getting any recently.

It would be very cool to see Airfix do 1/48th but... what would they do? All of the Big Guns are already available so it would mean some of the lesser types, or should I say types not molded or only molded in limited run kits. Examples would be an RE8, AWFK8, Roland DVI, Later Albatros 2 seaters, etc. Not very likely but who knows? As for a larger scale one would think that IF Airfix went big they would go 1/24th scale to match their other offerings in larger scale.
