Big Great War aircraft news from Airfix
« on: July 03, 2015, 11:45:10 PM »
Wow! Now here's some great news for Great War 1/72 aircraft fans. If you go to Airfix.com follow the link to their new Workshop section, you'll see a lot of background on two new toolings: a BE2c and a Fokker Eindekker E.II/III.

There are images of the sprues and lots of background info, CAD images, decal options etc. Both  are scheduled for January 2016

It may not be my scale, but this is such good news.

Best wishes
Nigel

This is great news. They also stated "There is no doubting that the most popular scale for model aviation kits is 1/72nd scale". Take THAT WNW!!!  Bwahahahahahahahahaha!  :-*

I think this is SPECTACULAR news for you 1/72nd builders! These kits will certainly reach an audience that WNW doesn't !

Yes, even if it's not my preferred scale, I'll feel duty bound to buy several of each.

I just looked at their page and the kits look pretty nice! I don't usually model in 1/72, but I'll be picking up both of these. They've thrown us WW1 aircraft nuts a bone and I think it's important to show our interest and support. :)

I already have a 1/72 E.III from the great Eduard's kit. But that BE2c is a must! There is still life in 72nd scale. Yooppee!!!

Especially good news about the pilot figures. I'm putting together a little dio of some 56sq SE' s and Voss. I forgot the Revell WWI aircraft pilots all sported mae wests!!!!
Have you tried modding the 1/72 polyurethane soldiers? Not an easy task.

I'm so incredibly excited for the BE! What amazing news! I'm not terribly excited about the E.II/E.III but it's an important aircraft for them to do.

If the new Tiger Moth is anything to go by, the Airfix BE will be a gem of a kit. And here I was getting ready to abandon 1/72!

With their release scheduled for January 2016, I'm guessing that we'll get the first glimpses of them at Telford in November, in much the same way that the 1/24 Typhoon was shown off before its subsequent appearance some months later.

After thinking about this I think I am going to buy an Eindecker. I know there has been an excellent Eduard kit around for years but this one looks detailed yet simplified  ??? It could be a relaxing quick build and besides I want to support Airfixs' effort for the sake of you 1/72nd scalers  8)

That is great news about the B.E2!  All we need now is a 1/72 scale Captain Triggers figure  ;D

A pat on the back for Airfix, it s wonderful to see this company take the step and produce new tooling WW1 aircraft models in 1:72 scale, and the two they have chosen are two great examples of WW1 aircraft, well done Airfix and I look forward to seeing the new models on the shelves.
