Hi LM,
I have seen the places you describe and yes, they're beautiful.
This is a magical place with many magical places new and old for me to visit.

Hi Bertl,
Not through the AKRA, but through the rear wheel spindle.  ;)

Bob,
Should you pass through, or close to, Killin in Perthshire stop for a pint at the Dochart Hotel/Inn. My favourite Pub in the entire world, and I've been to a few! If someone were to tell me I had to leave Canada and never return I'd move there in a "heartbeat", what a magnificent little corner of the universe!
Enjoy! :)
Cheers,
Lance

Lance,
Looking online I see why you love it! Looks like a beautiful setting to put your feet up and build plastic  ;)
I will place this location in my 'to visit category' but doubt I will find the time during this trip to visit. There is always a next time! That's as long as I don't fall off Ben Nevis later in the week!

Cheers,
BVB

Hi Bob, as a local, I sent some recommendations earlier but for some reason the post didn't work. But LM is quite right, Fort William is a passing point on the way to the real Scotland.Rather than spend a day on the tourist trail up BN, trust me, get on your bike and go round Loch Duich (Eilean Donan Castle  - you'll recognise it) past Lochcarron and up over the Bealach na Ba pass to the glorious villages of Applecross, Shieldaig and Diabeg. You will never, ever, forget the road, the views, the beaches, the mountains, the islands.....
Have some of the freshest seafood in one of the inns in the villages (Especially Applecross - if the music festival isn't underway just now).
Trust me. Just do it.
Sandy
Unfortunately I'm in Mallorca just now or we could have met up.
PS if you want a good easy mountain go up to Torridon and pop up Stac Polly. Not too high but looks like a miniature Matterhorn and the views at the top are breathtaking.

The Monument is spectacular, and sadly some of the smaller personal ones are very recent. It was a very emotional interlude along the way, very grey and misty as in your photo. We have a near identical photo of it, nice to be reminded again, real men such as these need be remembered.
Cheers,
Lance

Wow! BvB, that is as evocative a photo as I've seen....perfect weather for it.

Just reading the vowel starved names that Sandy has listed makes me hear the skirl of the Pipes! Were I the one there, I'd be following the suggestions of the local......

But, regardless...at least you're there! And as the locals don't say, Vaya con Dios!

Hi Sandy,
I visited the very places you speak of back in 2004/05/06. I loved the Applecross pass, the A86 to Kingussie, Eilean Donan and loads more! Every turn produces another stunning view.

I'm hoping to meet up with a friend tomorrow in Scourie, north of Ullapool. Just waiting to hear if he has managed to book me a room in the Scourie Hotel.  ;)

Happy days!

If you are in Scourie you are in God's own country. A Perfect Day can be achieved by crossing over to Handa Island and seeing the Puffins, Skuas and Basking Sharks and the old deserted Clearances village.
I was lucky enough to cross over once in the boat with Chris Bonnington who was climbing the Old Man of Handa sea stack.
I believe the weather back home will be great this week so you are in for a treat.
Sandy (in 32° in Port Soller, Mallorca!)

I climbed me a mountain. The Highest in the United Kingdom - Ben Nevis!

It took me 6.5 hours to get up and down Nevis. 4 miles of walking uphill followed by 4 miles of stumbling downhill. My legs are still killing me!!  :-[  but I'm so proud I made it to the summit.

On the way down the misty clouds lifted enabling me to take this panoramic photo. I'm very happy with this picture  ;)

I have had a blast this past week and it has been my pleasure to share some of my highlights with you all.

Back to buckling!

Cheers,
Bob  :)
