Hi Bob, as a local, I sent some recommendations earlier but for some reason the post didn't work. But LM is quite right, Fort William is a passing point on the way to the real Scotland.Rather than spend a day on the tourist trail up BN, trust me, get on your bike and go round Loch Duich (Eilean Donan Castle - you'll recognise it) past Lochcarron and up over the Bealach na Ba pass to the glorious villages of Applecross, Shieldaig and Diabeg. You will never, ever, forget the road, the views, the beaches, the mountains, the islands.....
Have some of the freshest seafood in one of the inns in the villages (Especially Applecross - if the music festival isn't underway just now).
Trust me. Just do it.
Sandy
Unfortunately I'm in Mallorca just now or we could have met up.
PS if you want a good easy mountain go up to Torridon and pop up Stac Polly. Not too high but looks like a miniature Matterhorn and the views at the top are breathtaking.
