Beautiful work on these three so far! I'll be following your builds.

I got to meet an HD.1 on Saturday myself, and now I feel the need to buy a kit! It looks like it would be fun to fly.

Thanks Terri and KiwiZac for sharing those beautiful pictures...

I have gone a bit forward:
The three propellers are painted and ready

18 cylinders out of 27 ready and mounted on the engine cores
On the cylinders' heads I have not put all the (too many) pieces but just a couple of them needed to place the cables and sticks.
To be honest, the instructions in my opinion are wrong because from the pictures I have, the spark plugs are placed (looking at the engine front face) on the left of the cylinders, while the picture in the instructions card shows them on the left but looking on the back of the engine.
So I glued the cylinders the wrong way on the first engine, then I made the second engine the other way round.

I don't want to remove the plugs or the whole cylinders from the 1st engine to mount them on the other way, because it took 2 afternoons to make the two engines and don't want to start over again.

Moreover I gave lost 4 spark plugs to the floor monster and have not enough to build the third engine so I don't want to risk losing any more of them.
I think the third engine will have some home made spark plugs.

I must say building the engines so far has been a dreadful experience because of tiny pieces and my sight getting less and less good!
Anyway I couldn't go with the horrible engines provided by the kit(s)

I will post some new pictures when the three engines are complete (with sticks, cables and tubing in place)

Ciao and thanks for following so friendly!

Hallo, I had some more time and energies during last weekend, here are the 3 propellers:

Here are the three engines:
back:

front:

You can see the top left and the bottom one have the spark plugs on the left of the cylinders (looking at the front face)
It is the same as shown here.

The Taurus instruction sheet :

...shows the back of the engine with the spark plugs on the left, this made me glue the piece with the wrong orientation you see in the top right engine.

If this is an error of mine please let me know!!!

Building the three engines costed me such a long time because I am not able to handle pieces of that dimension, the mechanisms on top of the cylinders were made by three or four pieces, in the end I decided to put just one!
You know the engines provided by the kit(s) were less than basic so I wanted something better but these are too much better!!!
Taurus made a fantastic piece of jewelry but that was too much for me!
Is there any intermediate way to go?

Thanks for looking

Antonio

Great work and a very informative thread. I've just acquired an Eduard Hanriot so I will be using this build as a reference. If I get anywhere near your standard I'll be a very happy bunny.

Nice work on the engines  :) and yes , top right engine has the plugs facing the wrong way . Other two you did correct .
Have you tested fitted them inside the cowl ?

Hallo Terri, thanks for replying (same to Patrick of course!)
I checked all the three engines and only one needed a bit of the cowling filed out of the internal surface, but now all of them fit well.

At the moment I am hardly scrubbing the fuselages junctions to make them even before painting.

;-)

Ciao

Hallo everybody,
after a long time here I am with some news about this tribuild...

I finally closed the fuselages, added the petrol tank cap behind the pilot's head and repainted the three fuselages all over:

Macchi built Hanriots were delivered in classic CDL, while the French built machines were aluminum doped, so I used for the Coppens' mount two different metal paints:

- Mr.Kit AC22 Alluminium over the metallic parts (of all the three planes)
- Tamiya XF16 flat Aluminum for Coppens' linen
- Mr.Kit IT05 CLEAR DOPED LINEN (DARK) for the Italian planes

The last image shows the portholes for the camera (I guess) Macchi made on their machines

Here I show a couple of details of the tail structure built from scratch

in the last picture you can better (?) see the bracket used to hold the tail skid

Here I "quote" one of the precious Jamo's pictures as a reference

Some details added to the lower wing, here as well Macchi and Nieuport built planes had some slight differences (position of the external inspection windows)

Here is shown the completed work on the fin and rudder:

I had to replace the control horns supplied by the kit because they are too small to host three holes

Another pic by Jamo I used as a reference

Now I am working on the upper wing and on the horizontal tailplanes...
but no meaningful picture yet.

Thanks for the attention.
