Hi everyone,

well, I think I've sorted it out - pretty obvious really.

Because the DIII had narrow/single spar lower wings compared to the broad/double spar version on the DI/II the aileron controls HAD to change accordingly. In the DI/II the aileron lever was situated just aft of the control column (as per Roden kit, Windsock Datafile Special 'Albatros Fighters' page10, etc) and the wires ran out just behind the rear wing spar to just aft of the interplane strut. In the DVa the aileron controls were quite a way ahead of the control column (as per WNW kit) so that the lines ran out behind the more forward-positioned single spar. What has fooled/influenced me - and Roden - is that the detailed skeleton drawings in the Datafile Special 'Albatros D.III', page 33 faithfully show the DI/II control set-up but in the DIII airframe. As can be seen, the rear aileron controls (usefully marked in plan view by the pulleys) mean that the control wires would run out from here along the lower wing not far forward of the trailing edge! Ironically, the draughtsman has accurately drawn the two wires just behind the single main spar - but of course they lead to nowhere - an impossible connection - in the fuselage. Ergo, the Datafile plans are in error - simple - the DIII did have the DVa-type system.

Now I've just got to fiddle the WNW DVa set-up into the Roden frames - and dismantle my Roden/PART/scratched control column.

I'll have to research the floor issue - must look harder at the photo mentioned and view the Aerodrome posts. Thanks for these pointers in the previous posts.

Cheers,

GrahamB
