WnW Fokker D.VII F (501/18 "Red W")
« on: April 08, 2015, 08:01:14 AM »
Here are some pictures of my recently finished D.VII F.

I had originally started this for last year's Group Build, but didn't quite make the deadline, but she has finally reached completion.  Aftermarket items include Aviattic's lozenge decals, Gaspatch's Spandaus, and Taurus upgrades to the BMW engine as well as cowl nuts; all beautifully made and highly recommended.  Oh, and seat belts from RB Productions, which were also nice.

All of the markings larger than the various stencils and ID numbers were masked and painted (in some cases more than once).  Aside from the Taurus bits, I detailed the engine with aluminum tubing and fine wire.  Paints were generally Tamiya, the prop was done with colored pencils, and weathering was done with oil washes and a Tamiya weathering kit.  The complete build thread can be seen here: http://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=3858.0

Despite my slow pace, I thoroughly enjoyed building this kit, and would do so again.  As has been mentioned in many places, the tolerances are tight, but aside from that, I didn't find too many trouble spots.  There is plenty of collected wisdom regarding the Wingnut D.VII kits in these forums.

Anyway, here is my representation of 501/18 from Jasta 26 in late 1918:

Thanks for looking, and thanks especially to all who followed along with this build,

Chris

Chris,
Your DVII build was worth the extra time to finish! You have created a beauty! Your Lozenge application, subtle weathering, and overall finish are stunning. The painted on markings give it that extra look of consistency.

Chris, I have followed the build constantly in awe of your talents.  The Fokker
is absolutely sublime.  The paintwork and subdued weathering are wonderful and
as Rick pointed out, the painted on marking are a great touch and look "just right".
All in all, a terrific example of the model-maker's art.  Great job, my friend!

Cheers,
Ernie

Followed your build with interest...great finish!
