Beautiful paint work Dave and I love the colours you used, the cockpit details are excellent.

Extraordinary work, Dave!  The cockpit is a vast improvement over the original and your paint work is brilliant.  You've got a real show stopper in the works here, mate.
Cheers,
Bud

As an addition to my above comments I have to agree with my Amigo also!

Great model, Dave
What colour did you use for the Italian green under the wings? It is really the same green that I saw on the ansaldo balilla before it was restored.
Er me

The Italian green is an old tin of Humbrol Brunswick green I had laying about. It may not be an exact match, but it is close enough.

Dave,
The SPAD is looking Stunning! How did you do the Early rounded wing tips?
RAGIII

The early rounded tips are just plastic card glued to cut down wings and sanded to shape. Im not actually that happy with them, but they will do.

Lovely work, Dave. What a fine job you are doing!

I was toying with the idea of getting this SPAD, but then decided on the latest re-boxing of the Academy 1/32 scale  Nieuport Ni-17. It only cost £14.99 but seeing what you're achieving I'm not sure that I made the right decision.

Best wishes
Nigel

Hi Nigel,
actually I quite like the Academy Nieuport 17, especially for its price. It definitely needs work, but I am sure a nice model can be built from it, so sure that its next on the bench after the Spad.

I have a thing for SPADs and Nieuports so I will watch this and some other builds closely. RAG, I need to look back at your efforts on the Roden SPAD VII C.1 too.

Ive made some more progress on the Hobbycraft Spad 13, including installing Gaspatches fabulous Vickers guns. Unfortunately the carpet monster has claimed one of the flash guards.
Im cutting my own masks for the prancing horses at the moment, with varying results. Unfortunately I sent some resin bits to a fellow Hyperscaler, and in return he was going to send me decals. No point in naming names, but suffice to say after 6 months ive given up on the thought they will ever arrive.

I assembled the Spad in my own rigging jig, but a study of the front on view shows the outer struts are too long, giving the lower wing a decided anhedral. Of course if I had fitted the struts and trimmed them BEFORE woodgraining them, I would have avoided what is about to become a major headache.

The scheme is looking awesome! Just as an aside here, Hobbycraft molded the struts too long on purpose so the modeler could use the outer struts trimmed to allow for warping ! Look very closely at the instructions, they tell you to trim to length! If one mounts the inner struts first, then the outer after trimming all is fine. IHTH,
RAGIII

PS: That strut thing probably wasn't the best Model design decision ever made  ::)

I really like to see the progress you have made on this kit. The camouflage looks very convincing, and those bright colours on the lower wing are a nice contrast.

If you succeed in cutting the struts (which i have no doubt about), your model will be a very neat looking replica.

I have no doubts you will correct the strut problem
Dave.  As Rick mentioned, probably not one of
Hobbycraft's best ideas. ;D  I am looking forward to
seeing the next updates.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Wonderful scheme Dave. I am loving the camo colors more and more, very soft just how I like them. Well done!

Kind regards
Patrick

Hi Dave, the work you did on this Italian aircraft is stunning!
I love the camo and all nut let me pinpoint the only defect in the model: the center section of the tricolore under the wings of the italian planes is NEVER painted white!
Only the green and red sections were painted, for example in the Ni17 I am currently working the center section remains aluminum as the rest of the plane, in your case it should be CDL.

By the way that is only a detail that does not affect the quality of the work.

Ciao

Antonio
