OK, now that I have two matching wheels, (I had lost one complete wheel assembly the first night I began this). A big thanks go out to Rob Hart & Albatros1234 for their assistance with these, and other parts. I have cleaned them up, drilled out fasteners at edge, and glopped on some putty to represent mud.

And first (of several), coats of paint, pastels, & washes have been added. I really had to beef up the spindly, feeble little struts with CA fillets to give sufficient rigidity to them, otherwise finished model would look crashed, when that is not what I intended.

Aha - but you know theyre there!!! So the DVII is buildable? Does the engine fit?

Lovely work to date! The muddy wheels will be an unusual touch rarely modelled!

Thanks for the support fellas. For whatever reason, I just see mud and the wheels being a common occurrence, and gives the finished kit some character. I still have a lot to learn from some of the WWI aviation model masters here though.

  Kevin,
Grass Airfields would account for the mud and dirt I would imagine. I agree the presents of a little mud on the wheels adds character to the project. Excellent progress my old friend and I'm looking forward to more.

Thanks again fellas. And yet another mistake. I really need to start paying more attention. I picked up, sanded, and primed,… the wrong propeller. I don’t know it for a fact, but I assume this D.VII used the Axial prop, which this is not.

If there’s a downside to accumulating tons of stuff over the years, it’s that sometimes things get lost/misplaced. Case in point, I decided to add the “H” monograms to wing bottom using solid color decal film. That film (black), is nowhere to be found, so I “liberated” some black areas from some other decals to finish this portion of wing. Champ decal solution defeated the nasty tendency of the Roden decals to curl at the edges.

Looks good. Champs? Is this a super strength decal sol?

Champ is indeed another decal solvent, similar in strength to Walthers, and stronger than Micro-sol. I use it (or the Walthers), for really stubborn decals. Champ is so strong, it will actually melt acrylics, so I use it sparingly.

It did indeed, and I hope to get lots more progress made on this in the next few days.
