Albatros D.II (1/72, Roden)
« on: August 02, 2014, 06:42:23 AM »
Finally, after a rather long build, with a month break for holidays, I have completed this model. It is Roden's Albatros D.II in the markings from Kasta 11, flown by Ltn. Karl Emil Schaefer in early 1917.
The kit is accompanied by the Part PE elements including the entire internal structure, all the fittings and covers on the fuselage and the wings, Windhoff ear radiators and a few other small bits. I had to scratch build some additional details visible in the photo of Schaefer's Albie (e.g. in the Osprey Duel Albatros Scouts vs RAF FE2b) - the flare rack, the flare chute, the rear view mirror and the strut-installed anemometer.
Some of you helped me with deciphering the possibilities of the actual camo pattern on this bird - many thanks again, for this invaluable help. I have read the Dan-San Abbott article on Albatros D.II colours, seen the fine skins for Rise of Flight, analysed three versions of the Schaefer's Albie photo and finally came to conclusion that what Roden suggested in the instruction convinces me most. I only replaced the full white squares under the upper side crosses with the thick white outline version. And I was forced by a disaster with the Roden decals (they stick so poorly that even a strongly weakened masking tape tore them off) to use white outlined crosses on the lower sides - after some deliberation I decided they somehow fit to the upper side version.

Enough of words, here are the photos:

Absolutely stunning, Prez, and truly remarkable in this scale.  The camo pattern and the shading are perfect and your wood grain is beautiful.  Congratulations on another masterpiece, my friend.
Cheers,
Bud

Another one of your incredible builds where you'd be hard pressed to prove that it's anything smaller than 1:32. Just great detail, and super clean.

Absolutely outstanding Przemol, your attention to detail in such a small scale is incredible and your wood effect is brilliant, congratulations on a superb build.

Incredible! Certainly looks bigger than 1/72 and the finish is superb, I love it.
