What can I add to what has already been written? Outstanding and incredible. A work of a master-craftsman.

That's 72nd scale?  :o  I'm going to give up modelling ww1 aeroplanes and take up knitting or something instead.  :P

Many thanks, everybody, for your welcoming comments, oh kind people. I am glad that you like my 72nd scale models, still. Even though I find it staggeringly more and more difficult to build in this small scale.

Seriously, how do you paint something like the gauges? The brass bezel on the one visible in the picture has got to be the width of only a couple of strands on a paintbrush.

Seriously, how do you paint something like the gauges? The brass bezel on the one visible in the picture has got to be the width of only a couple of strands on a paintbrush.

The bezel you see in the pic is from the compass. The entire compass is actually built of 4 or 5 PE elements. The dial is cut from the foil included in the Part PE set.
As for the painting, I try to use brush as rarely as possible, preferring airbrush, especially for small PE details. If the element involves several parts I build it first using CA glue. Here I use wetted toothpick tips to carry the particular parts to their place. Tweezers are useless, even the sharp-ended ones I have are too thick and they also tend to fire the parts into the blue of the the carpet monster. When the element to be painted is ready, I stick it to the masking tape to hold it safely during airbrushing. By the way, the particular bezel you mentioned was even easier, because I left it in the natural brass colour of the PE fret without any paint. It was attached to black painted compass base after the dial.
Those Part PE sets are very useful, though I admit they require some skill when handling, cutting from the fret, assembling and airbrushing. But I recommend them to anybody.

Thank you, Albatros1234, I am glad you like my D.II, too.

Delightful work Prez. Given my advancing years, 1/72 scale is but a distant memory!

Best wishes

Hello Prez:

This is truly an outstanding build.  With the attention to detail it appears to be a much larger scale.  Great workmanship all around.

Best
