WnW Snipe (Late) E8198
« on: July 26, 2014, 04:56:20 AM »
Hello All,

As I am a newcomer to these forums, I thought I'd post a few pictures of my only completed WWI build to date, the Wingut Late Snipe:

I returned to the hobby last year after 30-odd years away and built a few 1/48 WWII aircraft (my favorite subjects since childhood), but saw the amazing work people were doing on these Wingnut kits, and got pulled in... completely hooked!  I loved working on this model, and now have three more beautifully decorated boxes in my possession (the E.II/III Early, D.VII F, and Brisfit).

My Snipe is straight OOB other than the rigging materials.  I used Prym elastic for the flat wire, and monofilament for the control lines.  I cut lengths of Albion tubing, and made my eyelets from fine wire.  I also used a handful of Gaspatch 1/32 turnbuckles.

Thanks for looking; comments, questions and feedback are welcome.  I made plenty of mistakes and have lots of room for improvement.  The quality of these kits and the examples of the work I have seen in these forums really make me want to improve my skills.

Chris

Chris,
First, welcome back to the Hobby and to the Forum, 30 years just means more time devoted to the work bench to get caught up!...... ;)   Your Snipe is very impressive. Mistakes?? If they are there you've done a masterful job of hiding them!
Very, very nice work, and I look forward to seeing more of your work.
Cheers,
Lance

Hi Chris,
 Welcome to the forum.

You have produced a superb Snipe. The weathering is spot on - well done!
Nice eyelet and tube combo  ;)

Cheers,

Excellent weathering, just right.

I far prefer a good, lived in, well used aircraft to a brand, spanking new one.

Your modeling skills, and eye, are certainly up to date! Very nice Snipe, indeed. I have only built three RFC Wingnut Wings kits (one for review) and prefer the markings and colors of the German planes, but for some reason the Snipe appeals. Your fine model has moved me closer to getting one of my own.

Now THAT is one helluva debut to mark your return to the hobby!  Fantastic stuff, considering all of the new techniques that have been introduced in the past 30 years I'd say you've been very quick in jumping back into it. Excellent job on your Snipe, the colors and weathering (especially the spatter and oil stains) look marvelous!

Welcome to this wonderful forum, Chris. You may have only completed one WW1 aircraft, but that late Snipe is a beautiful piece of work. What have you got lined up next?

Best wishes
Nigel
