I'm Back After A Lengthy Stay On The Dark Side
« on: June 09, 2014, 10:36:47 PM »
I'm baaaaack! I've been pretty quiet around here for the last six months. Some might say that's not a bad thing!  ;D  I was concentrating on an AFV modelling project and suffered from a good dose of tunnel vision. The project was for the inaugural AMPS Great White North show in Oshawa, Ontario at the end of May. Oshawa is the home of the Ontario Regiment which served in the Italian campaign in the Second Great Unpleasantness as an armored regiment. My project was to model the following in 1:35 scale. The image shows an Ontario Regiment Sherman V being recovered on a captured German Sd.Ah.116 transporter trailer, lashed up to a RCEME Diamond T 980 tractor unit.

I used the Merit International Diamond T tractor from their M19 kit, Tamiya's Sd.Ah.116 trailer and Tasca's Sherman V kit as a basis for the project. It involved some conversion and scratchbuilding so it was a bit time intensive. When fully assembled, the model is 61 cm (24") in length so it's a bit hard to photograph. I did take one shot on my bench before the show though, and it'll give you an idea of the size.

All in all, it was a lot of fun but with it finally put to bed, I've now made a start on an OAW built Fokker D.VII kit. More on that in the near future.

Cheers,

Chris

 Welcome back, Chris!

It'll be good to see your back at the WW1 model aircraft bench.   Good tank model BTW.

Hello stranger, welcome back to the forum, do you need a hand to find your way around :>)

I was watching your tank transporter build over several months and to now see it finished is fantastic, you have done a brilliant job, well done Chris.

I now look forward to seeing your D.VII build.

I was wondering where you'd gotten off to, Chris.  Looks like it was time well spent.  Your Sherman, trailer and tractor are AWESOME!
Cheers,
Bud

Oh, yeah.  Welcome back.  Now, let's get that Fokker build log going.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments.

I do have a lot of catching up to do Des and right off the bat, I see that there are a lot of new names to get acquainted with. This doesn't surprise me as I know that the forum continues to grow in leaps and bounds. It's obviously the place to be for WWI aviation modelling.

Cheers,

Chris

Chris,
Absolutely Stunning work on that Sherman, transport trailer and tractor/Truck! I do still have a soft spot for the Sherman but I resist all thoughts even with the far superior kits available now compared to the mid 90s when I built my Sherman collection. Very glad to have you back here!!

Who couldn't have a soft spot for the Sherman?  ;D  You're a smart man for not straying to the Dark Side!

How was the AMPS show? Missed that one on my calendar.

For a first time event, it went very well. There were over 100 models entered, a good turnout of vendors, and participants from as far away as Chicago and New Hampshire. As it was held in conjunction with the Ontario Regiment's Aquino Day events, there was a healthy crowd of gawkers too. I hope the organizers see fit to hold it again next year and who knows, maybe you and I may meet then.

Cheers,

Chris

Hello Chris:

I was wondering where you had gone, and am glad that you are still in the land of the living.  We meet people and the only way to keep in touch is through the forum, when they're gone it is difficult to find out way.  So........glad to see you are back and hearty and hale.  The Sherman/truck combo is definately a stunner and shows outstanding workmanship through out.  One of these days I am going to re-visit the 1/350 Titanic with all the bells and whilstles, but; until that time WW1 a/c in 1/32nd are pretty much the focus, but I digress.

Welcome back

Best

Mark

I am indeed Steve. The aviation theme this year is WWI aircraft and I just happen to have a couple of those on hand.  ;D

Cheers,

Chris
