Looks EXCELLENT to me. The see through effect looks difficult. Too little and you have NO effect, too much and it looks like stripes on the undersurface. Yours is Terrific.

Hello Dan:

I think  you nailed it pretty darn good this go around.  It isn't in your face aware but it is there.  I like it.  Nicely done and nice recovery.  Looking forward to seeing you progress through the build.

Best

Hi Dan,

As Mark says, you nailed it. Great build so far, I'm enjoying following it.

Thanks, everybody!  This is a really fun build/conversion.

Just a tiny update:  I closed the fuselage slowly in stages and did the same on the upper cockpit part.  Done carefully, very little filling was needed.  In fact, I only needed the fill the rear seam behind the coaming and just a few areas along the fuselage half seams.  There were a couple of sink holes back near the rudder as well...

I then rescribed lines and added wood seams under the coaming based on the Datafile issue I have.  It's all been primed and is now ready for some wood treatment!

I will say that when looking at the Datafile, the seams between plywood components are almost impossible to see...especially in 1/32n scale.  I like the look of the "panel line" but it's probably more accurate to just cover them up with putty and just paint carefully with varying shades of wood and grain to denote panels.  Maybe next time!

Anyway, I hope to get the wood applied over the weekend.  Stay tuned... ;D

Cheers to you all,

Dan

That is probably the best fit I have seen on the coaming and cowl of any Roden 1/32nd Albatros! As for the panel lines, yes painting variations would most likely be more correct scale wise. But like you and many others, this is one place I have gotten used to ignoring scale for Artistic License!

Hello Everyone...

I started the wood/plywood parts of the fuselage.  Here are some in progress shots.  I am going for a very clean look while still getting some subtle tonal variation as the photos seem to show it being very light.  I think it's s bit dark but it looks ok from here.

I also tried to make the characteristic knots in the wood in various locations.  These look pretty good but are hard to photograph especially under some varnish as the darn camera didn't really want to focus!

But I think you get it overall.  I'll try and finish the nose parts next and hopefully post a shot of it unmasked soon  :) :)

Thanks for looking and have a great week...Dan

Thanks Bo and RAGIII...coming from you guys this means a lot!  8)

Here is the last part all unmasked and under some protective varnish.  I still need to add the other metal parts but I'm calling it pretty much done from here.

I can't wait to mask off the fuselage and tail markings  ;D

Thanks for looking...Dan

Lovely work, Dan. The subtle approach to the wood seems just right to me.

Best wishes
