Excellent progress, Dan.  I really like the seat cushion.

Conversion work in 1/32 scale? I would never have thought of it. Where did you say that you had modified the wing? Other work excellent too - a real tribute to your skill.

Thanks, Folks...it is really coming along very well.

LoneMod: I got a Datafile book on the D-I and II and it explained some differences from the D-I prototype.  One of them was the top wing cut out.  On the prototype, it only goes up the the second spar near the trailing edge (in line with the aileron hinge line) but the production was lots deeper.

It wasn't hard...Just drew up the new cut out, stacked some plastic sheet, cut it out and glued it in.  Lots of sanding and fillling later...taa daa!  ;D

Thanks for asking...

Dan

Hello Dan:

You are doing a  great job on this 'conversion' to the prototype.  Your changes, subtle though they may be, are well done.  The control stick fix shoule be an easy fix, hopefully.  The turnbuckle looks good as well.  Like you said, you are having fun with it.
Looking forward to your next update.

Best

Thanks everyone, for the looks and comments.  Here is one more tiny update:

I used the Datafile picture showing the light coming through the top of the prototype's wings to try and get the general construction to show through.  So far, I only primed the parts and used a colored pencil to rough in the components.  I also added the crosses on the undersurface of the top wing.

My next step will be to mix some appropriate linen color and lightly spray.  Hopefully, I'll end up with some structure showing through.  Maybe tonight!!   ;D

Regards to all,

Dan

I agree, looking forward to seeing how you do with this.  I would like to do this on one of mine, so you are in the hot seat now!   ;)

All,

Well...I think I over did it.  Here is my first try at light spraying over my framework and crosses.  You can JUST see the crosses etc. but I think it needs to be more obvious.

And my frame work?  Kind of non-existent.   :'(

I actually think it wasn't so much that I applied paint to heavily.  Rather, my frame work and markings need to be a bit more obvious.  As it says on Des' front page: a learning experience.

Back to the drawing board...Dan

Dan,
Very interesting experiment. I agree that it need be more pronounced. Perhaps a "bolder' approach to your shaded lines and outlines combined with a thinner paint mix and/or less paint applied. Like Mark I'd like to try this technique on one of my future Builds. I'll be doing some experiments first though, before applying this to a model. I'd recommend you try again right over top of the present finish after a few experimental shots on some scrap.
Great idea, and your Albie is a Winner so far!
Cheers,
Lance

Well as you said a learning experience. For what it is worth my opinion is just use a darker colored pencil next time as I think your approach was correct. As for the cross, it seems to need to be just a tad darker, at least in the photo, so perhaps starting with a straight black cross would work? I am sure with your skills you will figure things out!!

Thats a neat idea using a colouring pencil. Never entered my mind before. I cant add much more to what was said except I'm enjoying watching how this all comes together.

Really nice conversion/upgrading work, Dan. I'm sure you will nail the
wing lines and crosses next attempt.  Just a little darker and you will have it.
Looking forward to the next updates.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Wing Linen Mk.II

Here it is so far with some sun light through it and the top crosses painted on.  The bottoms are in the process.

I think it's not a complete wash this time and there is still some fine tuning to do.  All in all, I think it will pass.

Thanks for looking and the previous words of encouragement and suggestions.

Dan
