!/32 WnW Sopwith Pup, "Betty".
« on: May 08, 2014, 01:37:13 PM »
Hi everyone,
I have been slowly working on my long ago promised Pup and thought
I better let you know what I have accomplished...so far.  As it is pretty much
out of the box, I will keep the gory details to a relative minimum, but by all means
if you are wondering anything, please ask away!
The only extras are some Gaspatch turnbuckles, HGW seatbelts, and Gaspatch
Vickers machine gun.  Last, but certainly not least, wee teeny eyelets from our
one and only Bob VonBuckle.
Lets call the first picture "the calm before the storm". ;) ;D

Next, various bits and pieces for the cockpit...

Oops, a little tidying-up to do on the instrument panel :-[ ;D

I didn't try to go overboard attempting woodgrain on the cockpit frame, settling for a basic
"woody" look.

Next came installing the turnbuckles for the interior.  I didn't want to use the full-sized 1/32
turnbuckles, so I thought I'd live life on the edge and use Gaspatch 1/48 ones.  To me, I think they look
better for the interior. They are only on the top.  On the bottom are Bob's eyelets.

Time to string a few wires...I used 0.12 monofilament line with 0.05mm ferrules.

Well, I think I will leave you on the edge of your seats ;) ;D, and carry on next time.

Thanks for looking!

Cheers,
Ernie :)

I LOVE Betty!  She's so HOT!  Great start, Ernie.  Beautiful IP and good call on the buckles.

Bud

Great to see you started on this one Ernie and what a great start it is, the instrument panel is excellent and the use of the 1:48 turnbuckles was an brilliant choice, the wood looks perfectly okay to me, looking forward to following along with this build.

Ernie,
I just mentioned in another thread yesterday that I was thinking of ordering some of the Gas Patch turnbuckles in 1:48; now that I've seen yours here I definitely will! Looking good thus far, a great solid start. Watch that fuselage fit (on close-up), this one was a real eye opener for me in that regard!
I'll be following your Build closely, thinking of doing a second one of these as it's just such a great Kit.
Cheers,
Lance

Many thanks, Lance. Comments from such amazing modellers such as
yourself are really heart-warming.  I am really impressed with the Pup.
What a great-looking little aeroplane!
While I have your attention, Lance, what colour would you suggest for
the control and rigging lines?  Thanks for the help.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

What a great start, Ernie. Other friends have said it all, but I really like the idea of the 1:48 turnbuckles..

I'm very jealous!

Best wishes
Nigel

Ernie,
My personal preference for painting control and rigging wires is Mister Metal Color Lacquer. I use their #213 "Stainless" and sometimes mix in about 1/4 the amount of their #214 "Dark Iron" if I want it darker. The latter mix comes off a lot like Gunmetal. The only place that has it here is Comex Hobby in Edmonton. I use the outlet in the Kingsway Mall although the smaller one in the West Ed Mall should have it available; the secret is to phone them, have them order some for you and/or put it aside for pickup. They refuse to ship it any way at all including Greyhound or Courier due to it's lacquer base.(Guess they must hand carry it from wholesaler to their stores?!?! ::))
