Amodel 1/32nd Nieuport II Alvero Leonardi
« on: December 30, 2013, 12:35:28 PM »
Okay folks:

I wrapped this up this evening.  I had started this about two years ago, put it away, putzed with it and finally finished it.  The molding isn't bad for a limited run kit, but the parts needed a lot of trimming and pre-fitting like any limited production kit.  After doing WNW one is really spoiled and it was hard to see this thing through.  A few set backs like a tape pull on the upper wing after everything was done, but, it is what it is.
The obligatory box:

I used this photo and others of the replica for reference as the directions were unclear on paint in certain areas.

And the completed model

I used Humbrol #55 for the overall color, the rest were Tamiya Red and Green.  I used Testors MM silver for the cowling.  For the Vickers gun I used a spare WNW with the stock cut off and replaced it with the handle.\\Bob's Buckles were used for rigging attachment points and the rigging is a combination of EZ line and "invisible thread".  I used a brown artist felt tip pen for the edging and Tamiya Linoleum brown for painting the brown on the seams.  I wouldn't recommend this kit for a beginner, but an experienced modeler would find it rather straightforward.  I had to pin the Rudder and the V struts.  For attaching the lower wing I drilled holes in the wings and then inserted a brass tube through the fuselage and attached the other wing to it.  Worked real good.  I have another one, the Nie 16 in Albert Ball's marking that I may tackle at some point.  Now that I have this under my belt, I know what to look forward to.

Mark,
That is an Outstanding Nieuport! I have been toying with the thought of starting my Special Hobbies 16. Your A Model kit makes me think I may!

Hi Rick:

Give it a go.  As I mentioned, I putzed with this over a two year span, a little here and there and finally I had enough of it putzed with to start to paint and put it all together.  I enjoyed the build, I have seen that Special Hobby one and I bet the plastic is pretty much the same as this Amodel kit.
Thanks for the compliments and stopping by.

Best

I am so pleased to see you have done this kit!  She's a beauty. ;D  I really love this scheme, and I have this kit in the stash, so seeing your build is a real inspiration! :D  Very well done.

She's absolutely gorgeous, Mark!  So glad you finally finished her.  I love the cdl scheme in Italian markings.  Truly lovely, buddy!
Cheers,
Bud

It would have been such a pitty if you hadn't finished this beautifull Nieuport. The painting is wonderfull as are the decals. Many congratulations well done!. Is this what they called the "bébé" ?

Kind regards

What a gorgeous job on the Nieuport, Mark.  I have a Special Hobbies bebe
in my to-do pile and I hope it ends up looking at least a little like yours.  Absolutely beautiful.
You did a super job of the Italian paint scheme as well.  Thanks for sharing your
model, my friend.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Hello Patrick:   Yes it is the bebe.  Thanks for stopping by and checking out the build and your comments.  At the price of the kit, it would have been a pity not to build it.  So I finally did.

Guten Tag Herr Bucklemeitser:

Vielen Dank!  Thanks for the compliments and stopping by.  It is almost time to rebuckle!!  I am debating to do another DVII whilst I await a Buckle order or just to dive in to the AMC DH9.  I want to do one more DVII in the Seven Swabians, so I think that is the direction I will go along with a rebuckle via separate email.
