Winter blast hits Canada and England
« on: December 24, 2013, 05:48:32 PM »
Spare a thought for all our friends in Canada who are suffering through a very bad storm at present, I hope that they all get through it well. And to our friends in England who are also taking a hammering at the moment from severe storms.

I got up to find that all of our bins had moved to a house down the road. The wind yesterday afternoon and through the night was incredible. But we're safe that's the main thing.

I hope all our other members suffered as little damage as I did.
Regards, Ken

It will be tough for a lot of people in eastern Canada that won't have any
power over Christmas.  Sounds like many parts of the UK aren't fairing
much better. Hoping for the best for all.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

We came through unscathed last night, but there's more to come on Thursday and Friday so the Met office are saying.

Cheers

Last night and this morning a heavy storm in Western Flanders. A lot of things in the garden changed places. I think Great Brittain and France sufferd a lot more. Good luck for anyone who is amidst of storms. Hope it soon will be over!

Kind regards and lots of courage

It's lashing it down at the moment, but nowhere near as bad as last night.
Happy days!

Lost power last night at 10PM it just came back a1 1300 today.... Saved me from having to go to the Mother in Law's for Xmas day though  ::)

Some flooding, a little wind damage but we escaped any real trouble compared to many.

My thoughts are with those who fared badly.

It was properly scary last night. We have a 70 foot Ash over the house. I passed 10 downed trees on the way to work and a few swamped cars. Debris everywhere.

Just lost a fence panel though. More Friday.

The worst (severe cold and wind) appears to be over here in Western Canada (and the USA as well) however some of our Canadian fellow members "down east" are suffering for certain. I had a brief EMail from Chris Johnson on my return home last night, he has been running his household with a portable generator and a million extension cords but appears to have power back at his location just north of Toronto.
It may be all derived from Global Warming however that part of the severely unsettled weather world wide has definitely not reached the western part of this continent. We are forecast for temperatures from minus 10 to 0 Degrees C starting today so the Barby may get fired up for Christmas Eve dinner; it's all relative!
Thoughts with our friends in the disaster zones here and in Europe, hope you glean a bit of Christmas "happy" in the midst of trying circumstances! ;)
Cheers, :)

Right now it is very quiet and clear here in Bristol, but I suspect we will be getting all that Canadian weather in a few days time!!

Happy Christmas to all, and hoping we can all find a bit of model making time amongst the festivities!

We have had terrible freezing rain and ice the last week here in the US (Michigan); many trees down and tons of folks without power and may not have it for several days yet....

Freezing rain here too in Mississippi. Normally I wouldn't wish for snow this far south, but a little on Christmas day would be nice. Here in Hattiesburg a quarter of an inch is a major snow storm. Down here 99% don't have a clue about driving in snow or ice.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to All.

I'm sure Steve will chime in soon with what things were like at YYZ. He's always got a good perch for seeing crazy weather.

My thoughts go out to all of you who are suffering the current weather system. Here in south-west France we tend to get the tail end of the depressions swinging across the Atlantic, so it's wet and windy but nothing  remotely like what I'm seeing on the news.

Best wishes

Nigel

Gregory my friend, we have snow here in the UK every year and it's the same, half an inch of snow and the whole country comes to a standstill.

Cheers

Pete.
