Funny thing, here in western Canada, every year a lot of drivers
are surprised by winter.  I can't figure why, it comes about the
same time every year. ::) ;D

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Same thing here in Wisconsin.  They act like it something out of the ordinary.   This year we have almost set record cold and people are just amazed.  It is cold, it is January, and it is the "Great Upper Midwest", This sort of thing does happen here.  In June it will all be forgotten and then the stuff of legend.  Thank God for a hobby that I can enjoy indoors.

My (brand new) car helpfully won't even attempt to start when it's this cold (-22F this morning at 7am) -- some kind of interlock -- unless it is plugged into a block heater (which it ain't). Which means I get to stay home and grind away on the Alby :)

I think there are a lot of people in the more southerly States are
finding what a block heater is for.  Then again I wish I didn't have
to think about things like that for a couple of winters. ;) ;D

BRRRRR,
Ernie :)

Hello Ernie,

Although you live in a very beautiful region, we shouldn't forget in what climat you live these days and all the inconviniences it involves. I hope you can warm yourself and please take care of your fingers my friend so you can enjoy your beautiful hobby. Courage!

Starting to get bored with the wind and rain that we're having down the lower half of the UK but I guess it's a lot better than the snow. We normally get the bad weather about a fortnight after the US so we're doing absolutely nothing to get prepared for it (as usual).
Regards, Ken

I'll warn my kids that they might expect some snow in 2 weeks  ;).

But it is again weather of extremes. I talked to the family from Minnesota of my nephews wife on december 29th and then they were already complaining about the low temperatures, but I understand that it has gotten a lot worse since then.

On the other hand up until now we are having record breaking high temperatures in the Netherlands. Last week around 14 degrees Celsius which is very warm for the beginning of January. And strange enough the storms in th UK haven't hit us.

regards,
Ivo

I certainly feel for all you people struggling to keep warm this winter, what we keep seeing on our news reports is quite disturbing, you know it's bad when they had to put the polar bear inside because it was too cold. When I lived in Michigan for 12 months we had a few days when the temperature dropped to -23, it was pretty cold on those days, a vast difference to what I am living in now, a very balmy 28ºC today.

At least one answer to the age old question, "how cold was it?" Okay, this hits on a lot of Canadian stereotypes, but if you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at?
