This is just a quick  knock together of Revells 1/72 Albatros D.III. A very basic kit, built OOB, mainly an experiment with Vallejo Woodgrain glaze and to see if I could get on with EZ line for the rigging.











I'm actually kind of pleased with it, all things considered.

This is a nice build,beautifully painted. It's a bit a pity that the pictures are not so sharp. Many congratulations.

Well, Ken, you should be pleased!  She's a real beauty.  This is my favorite D.III scheme.

Very well done Ken, for a simple OOB knock together kit you did an extremely good job, and the wood appears to have worked well for you. This is a really nice looking model with a great colourful scheme, the most amazing fact is that it is only 1:72 scale, I don't know how you guys do it.

Wonderful work, Ken!  I'm with Des, I really don't know how you do it in the
teeny scale.  You have my admiration.  I'd like to see more of your models.

I like it. If you use it neat it comes out too dark, but when it's watered down it does create a nice effect. I experimented a bit before I used it on a model and I'm happy with the end result.

Very impressive build - have just commented on the Airfix DVa - the Revell kit was the second WW1 kit that I attempted after I had developed techniques to build models properly. It just shows how these old kits can still be made into worthwhile and impressive models.

Please forgive my asking but is this one of V Voss' schemes? My own model has similar markings but no heart on the upper fuselage and a white upright swastika in the laurel wreath. I am aware that markings changed over time but I have not seen this scheme, (or variant of it), before. It also did not have the light grey u/c and only 2 colour upper wings.

It is supposed to be one his schemes. It's the scheme that came in the kit. I did have a look around to see what I could find out about it. I found a lot of builds out there that had the swastika and a lot that didn't - I suspect it is Revell's liking for pretending the swastika didn't exist that made them change it. Most of the ones that I found had the three colour upper wing so I ended up confused and just went with what the kit said.  :-\

Not to hijack the topic, but Voss' D.III color scheme(s) is discussed at some length here. Long story short, yes it technically should be a swastika, (good luck symbol, predates Nazism etc etc), the third heart was added after the other two, probably after he was banished from Jasta Boelcke. Wings on this machine were also changed sometime during its service life. Plenty of room though for controversy and interpretation...
