WNW Fokker DVII
« on: October 16, 2013, 12:00:02 PM »
If you have been following my build on the under construction thread...I am calling it finished.  WNW Fokker DVII with the markings of Josef Jacobs, 1918.  Figure is from Cockpit Wings (sculpted by Steve Warrilow), and lozenge decals are from Aviattic.  More pictures coming soon.

I shall never forget my admiration for that German pilot, who single handed, fought seven of us for ten minutes. I saw him go into a fairly steep dive and so I continued to watch, and then saw the triplane hit the ground and disappear into a thousand fragments...James McCudden

Fantastic, Kreston! The build quality, decals, lozenge, figure painting; it's all there. Lovely bird.

She's gorgeous, Kreston, and that figure is superb.  I envy you guys who can do such brilliant figure painting.
Cheers,

Isn't this good! Well done Kreston. It's already made me look at the WnW site and consider whether I can afford one of the D.VIIs.

Best wishes
Nigel

Yes, I like this one Kreston.  I'd like to see some more photos, a most striking colour scheme on this D.VII.

Cheers

Great job Kreston!  That God-of-the-North-Wind decal turned out very well indeed.  :D  That is a striking D.VII scheme, and you've done a marvelous job painting the figure as well.  Thanks for sharing your excellent work with us.

Regards,

Bob

Brilliant, Kreston -

Looks even better with the pilot figure standing next to his DVII!

Thanks for the kind comments! I am thrilled to have finished my first WWI aircraft and appear to be hooked on these Wingnut kits.  Here are a couple more pictures of the DVII.

Kreston,
It was great seeing you at the Chicago Show and it is still hard to believe that this is your first WWI aircraft since playing with those good ol' Aurora kits when you were a kid. The color harmany you have working across the color scheme, groundwork, and pilot are superb. What I didn't have a chance to discuss with you at the show and what really stands out is what you did with the pilot and his scarf. The blue you chose for the scarf does a number of things very special. It makes the pilot just jump right out at you in the diorama, very important when he is easily outshaded by the excellent aircraft. What I can add here that isn't done justice in the photos in that the color selection and shading you did on the scarf gave it a true delicate nature to represent the delicate nature of the materials used in an aviator's scarf and gave it that depth that would be very difficult to represent for the numerous wraps of scarf around the pilot's neck. Outstanding work and I cannot wait to see number 2, right after you finish that pair of Fusiler WWI pilots you started. Last but not least, congratulations on your Gold Medal for the WWI German Stormtrooper at the Chicago Show!
  See you in Atlanta?

Thanks John, from start to finish this was an enjoyable foray into WWI aircraft modeling.  Of course there were those 3 or 4 times that I wanted to launch the Fokker across the room!  I am still trying to decide which WNW kit to tackle next and which figure(s) to add.  This recent Chigao Show was one of the best and I was glad to be a part of it!
