You're doing a beautiful job on this Nieuport Ernie!  I have a couple of the Academy Ni.17 kits in the stash, so I am going to school on your build.  ;)  Thanks for alerting us to the pitfalls.  Despite the occasional angst, it looks like it builds into a nice model; at least you've made it so!

Regards,

Bob

Thanks alot, Dave and Bob.  Your encouragement helps me so much.  So far I have
been tinkering with a tiny bit of scratch building for the ammunition delivery.  Will
have a couple more pictures soon as I can.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Here's a few photos of my latest tinkerings.  I tried to improve the ammunition delivery
fairing with questionable success, but I think I can live with it...for now. :-\

Moving on, other than putting together a few sub-assemblies, about the only other
thing I managed to do was increase the weathering a little...not too much, I hope! ;)

That's about it for now, mes amis.  I'm hoping next to finally get the upper wing
in place, although I have a sinking feeling that I will have to increase the dihedral of
the lower wings.  I took a quick look today and without forcing anything it looked like
about a 3mm gap between the bottom of the struts and the lower wing.  We shall see... ;) ;D
Thanks for looking. More to come.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

What do you mean tinkerings Ernie? Blimey, I wish I could tinker around at that level of skill!

Best wishes
Nigel

Excellent work Ernie, it's a rather attractive little aircraft the Nieuport.  Good proportions all-round, nice photo from the side as well.

Enjoying your build-log.

I'd like one with eisenkreuz on the wings (shame on you Steven).  :)

Happy Landings
Steven

Hello Ernie:

You are really doing a bang up job on this kit.  It is not one of Academy's best efforts and you are definitely a patient man to do the work you are doing on this kit.  The silver finish is a challenge and you are doing outstanding work on the weathering and subtle shading effects.
I have another one of these and will be referencing your work when and if I ever tackle another one.
I am looking forward to seeing you progress through to completion.

Best

Mark

Wow!  I'm really blown away by the generous support for my project.  Thank you
so much my friends!
I went up to take another look at the wing situation and it shouldn't be as bad as
I had envisioned...well hopefully anyway! ;)
As they say, stay tuned. ;D

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Thanks for the kind comments Jacek, Zabu & Dave. :)
Here's a mini update fellows.  The top wing is on...hopefully forever. ;)
Don't worry, the bandages aren't permanent...honestly! ;D

It's attached with Tamiya Extra-Thin cement followed by a little thin CA.
Here's a peek at the strut.

I also installed the aileron bell cranks in the top wing.  I replaced the kit version with
Tom's PE handles which I CA'd to 0.6mm brass tube.  The only other thing for now was
replacing the plastic tail braces also with the 0.6 tube.
That's about all for now.  If all goes well with the top wing, the next big things will be the
undercarriage and rigging.  More to come.
  Thanks for looking. :)

Cheers,
Ernie :)

She's looking excellent Ernie, great to see the top wing fitted, and your ammo chutes look fine to me, you are doing an all round brilliant build, thank you for sharing it with us.
