Hi Ernie,
this is very nice paintwork, I like the aluminum color on the fuselage, together with the scheme on the wings should be a cracker. Thanks for sharing your pics.

This is a great looking machine. Your paint work is perfect and the fig looks interesting.

I forgot you were doing the Academy/Nungesser bird so to go with the figure, Mnta has also produced  a generic French pilot head set: 3 heads with different style flying helmets.

Thanks for the support Patrick, Robert, Steve & Rick.  It is a real boost to have your
encouragement!
Rick, you were right the first time...it's Georges Guynemer's kite. ;)

I have the nose together and painted...hope to have photos up later today.
The Academy decals are driving me to distraction.  They are impervious to micro-sol and
the only way I can get them to stick (barely) is a combination of micro-sol (remember to
order the gallon size next time!) and heat from the hair dryer, which I have no more use
for after working with these...decals. ;) ;D
The big trouble I have right now is silvering on the top wing large#2 decal.  I cannot for
the life of me get rid of the silvering.  I think I may just have to live with it.
Today I figure on trying to get the balance of the decaling done and fix the lower wings to
the fuselage...photos to follow.
Thanks for your interest guys.  If any of you know any secrets to using the Academy decals
by all means let me know! ;D

Cheers,
Ernie :)

ernie,
The only other technique I know of is using a pool of Future/Pledge with Future shine,to lay the decals on. I haven't tried this method so maybe someone else can chime in explaining the method?

Thanks Rick.  Worth a try, eh?  Despite the decal fiasco, it is an enjoyable
build. More progress to come...eventually. ;) ;D

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Here is a little heads up on the Guynemer figure. By the way I said a 3 head set can be purchased but it is only 2.

Ok, here's a bit of an update as promised.  The Nieuport is starting to
look a little more like an aeroplane now.  I had originally painted the area
from the cockpit forward with Alclad Duraluminum, but it didn't look quite
right...too dark a shade compared to the rest of the fuselage, so I decided
to paint the whole fuselage with a couple coats of Alclad semi-matt Aluminum
to hopefully blend everything together.  The outcome is pretty much what I was
looking for, thank goodness! :P  The cowling I left the Duraluminum colour.

The wings were attached with Tamiya Extra Thin cement as well as thin CA, so hopefully
that should hold them.  From measuring drawings, I figured that the dihedral was about
3 degrees.

I'm pleased that you can see the instruments when looking from behind the cockpit...so all
that work was not all for naught. :)  Apologies for the shadow in the photo! :-[

I am still fighting the decal wars...the black flash behind the cockpit decal was totally useless,
as it would not adhere to the curves, so I ended up painting it with Tamiya semi-gloss black.
I think I will have to paint the fuselage with a clear coat to hide the carrier film from the
decals on the sides.  They are quite evident as the light changes.  Ho-hum!  Nothing new there. ;)

So that is where we sit at the present time.  Today, I am planning to start cementing the anchor
eyelets for the rigging into the wings and hopefully get some of the tail rigging finished.

Thanks for looking. :) Comments and advice gratefully received ;) ;D

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Magnificent presentation, Ernie, the re-spray of the fuselage colour looks much better and the contrasting cowling comes off beautifully. Nice work bringing a very plain and challenging Kit up to a top of the line model. Comes off as "WNW'ish" standard! :)

Looking REALLY good Ernie!  I really like the wings---you got the rib shading just right, and the aluminum border just looks very neat.  ;D

Bob
