Well friends, here's a bit of an update.  I've been working on the cockpit area
and while it's slow, it is starting to take shape.  I'm not accomplished enough
to have perfect detail, so what I'm happy with for now is the feel of the
aeroplane and hopefully the cockpit is starting to look busy enough.









There is still a few things I want to do...seatbelts would help , so I will leave it here
for now and add a few bits and bites next update. 
  Of course any advice or comments are more than welcome!  Thanks for looking.

You are doing an exceptional job Ernie, the cockpit looks superb and your colouring is great, the cockpit looks busy enough for me, just the addition of a seat belt will add the finishing touch.

happy with the progress so far and after a little tinkering inside I look forward
to hiding most of it when the fuselage goes together...silly isin't it?

by your work.  Much appreciated!)
 Patrick, Thanks to you as well.  As for the wood effect, it is pretty well old-school.
The base is Tamiya Deck Tan acrylic, then when dry a mixture of oil paints...I think it
was raw umber, raw sienna and burnt umber, thinned and mixed until I ended up with
a colour I was happy with.  The hard part is waiting for the oils to dry...took about a week.
After that I sprayed a coat of Tamiya clear orange and then Vallejo semi-gloss varnish.
  Having said all that, I would suggest looking at PrzemoL's wonderful Sopwith Triplane
construction.  His woodgrain is world's better and all done with acrylics.  I plan on trying
that in my next build.  Anyway, I hope I answered some of your questions.
