Hi everyone.  Just a quick little update for now.  I decaled the rudder and I have
to warn anyone building this kit.  The Academy decals are quite nice regarding
colour and layout etc., but they are fairly thick and a nightmare to try and get them
to settle down over curves etc.  I swear I must have gone through half a bottle of
Micro-sol to get them to lay down over the rounded edges!  Even at that I had to wait until
they were dry, then carefully trimmed the carrier film away and ran Tamiya extra thin cement
around the edge.  After that I touched-up the paint (I see the blue is not quite a match, but
will leave it for now).

I drilled out the rudder and CA'd a pair of 0.5mm wires to mate with the fuselage.  There is
nothing to lock the rudder to the tail end of the fuselage otherwise.  I am figuring to embed
a couple of lengths of 0.08 brass tube in the rear end to accept the rudder wires.
  That's about it for now...I'll be back to work on it later today.  Updates to come if it goes well!

Wrapping decals around Nieuport rudders is certainly challenging! I have been struggling with the same issues with my Nieuport 28    RAGIII

Looking good Ernie, rudder decals can prove very frustrating, that is why I gave them up some time ago and now paint all my rudders. Looking forward to seeing further updates.

Very thick decals does Revell, but help softeners. I use Mr. Mark Setter under decals, and Mr. Mark Softer on the decal.
I do not know why they banned sales in Europe?
I also as Des am trying to paint control surfaces.

So is laid even thick decals after using Mr. Mark Softer

Thanks for the remaks, Rick, Des & Jacek.  I think if end up in the same
position with thick decals like this, I will do as you mention and just paint
the rudder. Thanks for dropping by. 
  I'm working feverishly on the model (something akin to a snail's pace)  ,
and will have another update before too long.

I have a dear friend who is an expert builder of racing engines for vintage cars, mostly Ferrari and Alfa Romeo. I have heard him say more than once something to the effect of "the more I do this, the longer it takes me." He doesn't mean he is slowing down. He means the more he learns, the greater the time and attention he pays to the smallest stuff.

    A real pleasure to follow you on this one, and It's heartening to see I'm not alone in moving slowly! The more I indulge in this Hobby the slower I go, like Bo's buddy I find that the detail bogs me down but the enjoyment factor increases markedly. As they say in our national game, skate as fast as you can but don't tear your sweater or break your stick!
    Keep at her, she's turning into a real winner.
