Hi Pete,

I have to admit that all of my WNW models rest in boxes. The year is going to build the Albatros, but no time.

Cheers,

Vladimir

Hi Vladimir;

Try to get an Albatros built, they are a great kit, but you have to be very precise with the bulkheads or you find that the fusilage sides won't fit properly which means lots of filler, but if you get the bulkheads precise you don't need any filler at all.

Cheers

Pete.

I'll add the same caution Vladimir; the edges of the bulkheads and the slots in the fuselage that they go into are critical, any paint at all and the fuselage won't close. I spent hours cleaning them up as a result of sloppy masking of the slots, a real challenge getting layers of wood grain and clear yellow out of them. Beautifully done Kit though, and a fun build. Looking forward to following your progress.
Cheers,
Lance

Wood and Wire parts arrived today from the Czech Republic, many thanks Vladimir, they look very good indeed, I would definitely recommend them.

The crossmembers have been painted with Vallejo Model Air Sand and I've tried to put the grain on with a darker Vallejo Old Wood using the RB woodgrain PE stencils, I'll now apply an oil glaze.

The inside fusilage sides have been painted with Vallejo Model Air Sand.

  Pete,
Man am I ever looking forward to following this latest project of yours. Outstanding first progress too. I'm interested in the RB woodgrain stencils. Will they conform to the curve of the interior and exterior fuselage without much problem? Are the stencils easier to use rather than the standard method? Best of luck to you with this new project and all other matters.
Highest Regards,
Gregory Jouette

Hi Gregory,

The stencils seem very flexible, however I don't think they will bend to very tight curves without damaging them, I will see how they work out.

A close up of one of the crossmembers.

A quick question guys, does anybody know where I can get any decals for the 4 figure white ref. no. that goes round the front of  no. 1 cylinder?

Cheers

Good start, Pete and thanks for the update!  I really like the
woodgrain on the bulkheads.  Nicely done. :)  Until next update.

Cheers,
Ernie :)

Albatrosses are my favorite aircraft of WWI. In my future plans I'm going to build this model in 1:32 scale.
I'll be watching.
