Got home from work last night, and there it was....my Wingnut Wings D.V! Now I see what all the fuss is about. Once I opened the box, I was immediately impressed by the quality. The level of detail molded into the kit is fantastic! Now I just have to wait for my aftermarket stuff to arrive. Ironically, I ordered both on the same day. The aircraft came from New Zealand in less than a week. The aftermarket is coming from less than 1000 miles away, but it will take 2 weeks.

Oh well, more time to plan which one to build. I was leaning towards Von Schleich's aircraft, but something about Kissenberth's is really tugging at me. Hopefully I'll have it sorted out by the time my parts get here.

Not WWI but still a biplane - I just snagged a Classic Airframes 1/48 P-6E Hawk, in the Snow Owl markings, on eBay.

I've always like that plane in those markings and figured I'd better get one while the getting is good. :-)

  Eric,
Congratulations on an excellent score my friend. I had a little difficulties with the struts (of my making) but the kit sure beats the Lindberg kit without a lot of extra work.

My last brag for a long time, probably.  Over the past couple of weeks I've been able to pick up the following:

I got the Gotha and D.Va from WNW, but had a bit of luck and picked up the RFC Pup and my second LVG from Aussie Modeller International (sorry, everyone, it was an Oz-only sale).  With the possible exception of getting an AModel or SH Nieuport 11, I probably won't be buying any more kits until WNW releases the Salmson (no, I didn't/ don't plan to buy a D.VIIF!) or early-model SPAD XIII.  With 29 WWI kits in the stash, at my current build rate I'll need to live at least another 32 years.  :o

I now have a spare LVG.  I'm not that interested in that particular aircraft, so will only need one kit to build.  I have to work out whether to sell it (no profit motive, I'd sell at cost to me + P&P- which is fairly expensive from Oz to most of the world) or swap it.  Ideally I'd like it to go to someone who missed out on the original release and who will build the kit.

Please, no PM's or e-mails offering to take it off my hands.  I'm up to my eyeballs with real life matters at the mo'.  When I make my mind up, in a couple of weeks, I'll post it on Swap and Sell.

I also bought a nice selection of Taurus resin, some Wood and Wire lozenge and plywood decals, and some HGW plywood decals, including their D.V set.

Now, if I could buy some spare time (yes, I know I'm retired- and so does everyone else- other retirees will know what I mean) I'd be able to get some progress made on my kits.  But no, someone wants a pantry built in the kitchen, now the new roof over the verandah is finished....

Anyway, just bragging because I've not got GB progress to report.  Back to the @#$%*&! panty.

A nice haul Dal, this will keep you busy for quite a while along with your other stashed kits, which one are you going to build first is the big question. A nice lot of accessories you have there as well, all very useful items.

I just purchased the Fe.2b and am tossing up whether to get the HGW super detailed PE set for the kit, it's very expensive though.

Nice set there Dal, I was looking at the plywood decals for my DVa, for when I get round to building it...

Des, a man of your calibre is more than able to scratchbuild the detailing for the Fee, but the set will be a helpful fix.  Perhaps worthwhile as so much of this aircraft is exposed, particularly the engine.  Had I not been so far downstream with my Fee build when the extras arrived on the scene I would have given them a try.

G'day.

Des, after I finish the J.1 and the N.28, I want to start the Tripe.  I'm also going to finish the SPAD XII to the stage where is needs markings and either find some decals or mask and spray them on.

While I like PE for some things, too often it's two-dimensional- and obviously so.  I don't know what you get in the Fee set, but with your scratch-building abilities I think you could probably do a better job with your usual wire, tube and sheet plastic.

Ian, my D.Va and D.Va are well down the list, too.  I bought the decals simply due to the fantastic results some people have achieved.  And because I was curious about them.  Having seen them, though, they do look like plywood and I'll try them on my Albie D.III (it will follow the Tripe).

Cheers.

Dal.

The problem with PE is that I've always found I only use a few pieces on a fret, and the rest of it is wasted. However Des, with your attention to detail, you may find that you employ all of it.

Cheers,

Chris

Working thru the Pup set Im seeing only a few parts, other than the belts, I might use. The turnbuckles are flat and from what I've seen here dont actually have enough room to fit as shown on the instructions.

Steve i got the super detail set for the pup, and like you say the turnbuckles don't fit  :o

i have only used the wood decal and the seatbelts really so for me the set was a bit of a waste

I have a drawer full of partly used frets; it's those few critical bits that keep me coming back however I'm more inclined towards "scratching" of late. One of the few I used to advantage was the Eduard SE5a Set, lots of good stuff there. I think the resin trend, as provided by Taurus, is becoming a better investment.
Cheers,
Lance

I just took delivery from Hannants in the UK the PE detail sets for the EII/III and Sopwith Tripe.  Also I have the HGW wood effect decals for the DVa (possibly the next build from my stash) and their seatbelt set for the same.  I was a little surprised with the seatbelt set as this appears to use printed belts on paper when I thought they were fabric?  Needless to say this should still give great results as the paper is softer and more flexible than the kit PE, and the PE belt buckles can be more effectively painted separately.  Also, although the belt kit is labelled for the DVa, I guess the remnant parts could be used on a different aircraft type?

My latest deliveries, the Wingnuts Fe.2b which I hope to do as the night bomber, the Valom 1:144 scale Sopwith Pup, I will be doing a review of this tiny kit, and the Top Studio 1:12 scale detail motor bike roller chain to add to my Huck Starter.

Nice score, Des. I'll be interested in seeing what you do with the Fee and tiny Pup, and how that motorcycle chain looks on your Huck Starter! I was not aware of that motorcycle product line, but may have to acquaint myself since small chains show up in many aircraft, especially for trim wheels.
