Hi Bob,
 I base coated the spinner in a dull aluminium, allowed to cure, then top coated with hairspray, applied some crusty salt to the wet hair spray, sprayed a thin white over the salt to give the yellow topcoat some pop, on with the yellow, which is a mixture of Gunze, Tamiya and Tamiya clear yellow, allowed to cure. When the paint has hardened take a barely damp brush and proceed to brush off the wee salt granules. Use the hard pointy end of a paint brush to add wee scratch marks. Random nicks and scuffs add to the final effect - BINGO!

 Coming along well I see. I like the OOB-but-with-some-extra-bits theory.  It seems that the WNW kits push builders to keep adding detail, and it IS difficult to try to stay OOB. Lovely prop and spinner also.

The snail is gaining ground! 
Diamond cut from masking film using my all singing all dancing vinyl cutter.   

One diamond down, one to go and a whole heap of lining-up coming my way!! Cross to be mask and sprayed within the diamond after the weathering process.

I have gone with a yellow edged diamond as apposed to the black edged diamond shown in Rowan's beautiful Pfalz DIIIa Volume one decal sheet... Why? I see no tonal difference when looking at the one & only photograph that survives, the colour tone between the edged of the diamond and the yellow tail markings are the same IMHO.
I'm happy to be proven wrong, but, the yellow stays!

Hi Dave,
 Give it a go!
 I prefer airbrushing the method as this causes the least amount of disturbance to the salty/hairspray layer.

If you never try you will never know
