I’m stunned!

Your work with the Caudron G3 undercarriage/tail boom is just amazing Des.

Do you think this one is going to land in my display cabinet in Adelaide (I wish)?

Happy Landings.

Beautiful work, Des. Especially the wood! I haven't looked yet, but do any of your build logs show your wood process step by step? I'm fascinated by the look you've achieved and am itching to try it myself. Keep up the fantastic work and thanks for posting it.  ;D

Simply exquisite workmanship Des. Those wheels could find no better home than on one of your scratchbuild projects.

Cheers,

Chris

Hi Des
I stumbled on this website with some lovely photos of a Régy propeller that came from a Caudron G.3:

Your build looks absolutely faultless. How will you ever go back to a kit after this?

Cheers

Thanks James for the link to the propeller, it is certainly a wonderful example. The Caudron used a variety of propellers during it's life, the particular model I am making used the Eclair propeller. I commissioned Doug Craner to make the propeller for me and he produced a brilliant example, it along with the Steven Robson spoked wheels will be the highlights of the model.

I will still be building kits as I am starting to build up a bit of a stash, but I am certainly enjoying my scratch builds, I love the earlier type aircraft which many of the kit manufacturers tend to steer away from. I have many more aircraft types on my list for scratch building.

After a few weeks of illness I have started work back on the Caudron again. The undercarriage is now fitted to the underside of the bottom wings, the cross brace makes the assembly very strong. I still need to attach a heap of rigging which will be connected to the undercarriage and the bottom of the wing and fuselage. The spoked wheels from Steven Robson are brilliant, very strong and enhance the model very well. The exceptional laminated wood propeller was hand made by Doug Craner, it is based on an Eclair propeller.

absolutely fantastic des. god i wish you knew how to cast. you could surely open a 1/32 resin aircraft company if you did. i love the caudron. who makes a kit?................no one. well i think in 1/72. and then theres the expensive yet fiddly ajp maquette in 1/48. i guess i will have to scratch one myself onday if i get up my nuts. i am in the planning stages of doing my first scratcher. i want to do the halberstadt d.ii. we shall see.

Truly brilliant craftsmanship as always, Des.  This is quickly becoming my favorite build.  I keep coming back to it over and over.
Cheers,
Bud

Thanks very much for all the kind comments.

I have completed the rigging on the undercarriage, there is quite a bit of rigging connected from the undercarriage to the bottom of the wing and fuselage, it certainly makes the assembly very strong. I still need to colour the tyres, they will be done in a light-ish gray.
