DML 1/48 Dr.I 425/17 MvR....
« on: June 08, 2025, 07:36:51 AM »

Build Log:   https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=15004.0

I wanted to model von Richthofen's airframe, 425/17 as close as I could imagine it to be on the morning of April 21,1918. The day of his last flight.
It could not be the beautiful, pristine aircraft so often depicted. It was a used combat instrument of war, castor oil blown on the outside, soaking through from the inside. Tell tale distinctive paint chips on both sides from repeated mounting and dismounting the cockpit via a wooden ladder. The continuous updates to the crosses per the confusing Idflieg directives.

The ubiquitous bottom shot showing the incomplete modified crosses.....

A rare occasion for me, built almost entirely out-of-box except for decals, cowling cable and gun-but cushion. The color is a cherry red, as I did not want orange.

I've wanted this in the case for years, I'm glad all the pieces finally came together so I could build von Richthofen's 425 triplane.

Alan, this is spectacular. Great detail and historic weathering, especially considering the 1/48 scale.

Lovely work Allan
I'm particularly fond of the paint chipping, but the whole feel of the aircraft is terrific. 8)

Very nice, Allan31! I like your your choice of red and the somewhat glossy finish.

Really good, Allan - good choice of red shade and red is not always the easiest colour to shade so well done there.

Striking. Though maybe not what I am accustomed to seeing the famous shot-down scene in Omaka Museum, I must say I like the cherry red!
