Pfalz D.IIIa Jasta 30 Dude 1/32 Roden
« on: May 04, 2025, 02:03:45 PM »
Having missed the WNW train, here is my attempt at a Pfalz DIIIa using the Roden 1/32 D.III kit as a start.  As far as I know, there is only one picture of this aircraft, and there are many ideas about it's look and history.  Some suggestions are Erich Kaus or Hans Bethge as pilots. The light stripes were suggested to be silvergray or  white. The dark stripes were proposed as black, various shades of gray, chrome yellow or even ochre.  If I had to guess, I'd tend to go with Bruno Schmaling and Winfried Bock's suggestion of white and yellow stripes as this was implied to be based on an interview between Kaus and Alex Imrie.  In my mind, this is a bit too "informal" of a scheme, so I went with my personal preference.
Out of the box except for Airscale instrument decals, brass tube, some plastic card and EZLine.  As per, the Roden Pfalz decals crumbled, so I made stencils for the national markings.

That's very nice and I love the colour scheme.

If you had said it was a WNW converted to a D. III, I would have believed it without any doubts. Very nice Pfalz.

Fabulous job, Warren! You've shown how nicely the Roden kit can be made.

Thanks everyone. It has it's share of self-inflicted gunshot wounds for sure. Fun fact, I have done 4 Roden 1/32 aircraft, and after cutting the windscreens out of the plastic sheet, have lost every single one of them. That is consistency.

Very impressive Warren, and your interpretation of the colors is really attractive. I have this one on the Stash shelf and will be revisiting your post here shamelessly!
Cheers,
