KP LVG CVI in 1/72
« on: April 13, 2025, 01:20:01 AM »
For those that may have missed my thread bout the build on this one here are a few completed shots.

KP's version is one of the best of their kits which I've tried (although I didn't risk the decals) ;) Some added details as usual which can be found in the build thread such as new struts from soldered brass, a carved prop and unusual exhaust for the type made from stretched sprue. A supposedly 'quick' build that consumed nearly 2 months of modelling time - ah well it looks great on the shelf. Aviattic lozenge on the wings with the rest of the markings from various old decal sheets or painted by hand

Very nicely built mini LVG.
Superbly done.
I like little details like the repair patches on the fabric surface.

Lokking great Paul, excellent build! I did wonder what the light coloured squares on the lozenge fabric were, now I know...

Cheers Bertl  and enathan ;D

I wanted to add a bit of visual interest to the lozenge covering so most is the 'faded' effect, but I used 'new' on the elevator for contrast as if it has been replaced and then added a few patches to help with the story.

Lovely job! I have one of these in the stash (was a gift from a very kind friend) and it's nice to see what can be done with it.

Thanks Zac.  ;D
It's a really nice kit apart from the struts which are a bit clunky so would need a bit of work (or replacement) The fabric effect on the wing is really nice and a testament to the original kit.

I?d be really proud of that, it turned out great!!

Cheers MightyEighth - It certainly looks good on the shelf in the cabinet  ;D

Very nice!
Greetings Joachim

That looks excellent!  How did you do the rigging?  I?ve been thinking about getting on of these - having seen yours I think I will now, although it won?t be as good.

Thank you Will  ;D

Rigging is my usual method of monofilament fitted into holes drilled all the way through. The Aviattic lozenge made it trickier than usual because I normally paint, assemble, rig and then touch up any holes left. The decal is transparent so no overlaps or patches are possible because they'd show up like a sore thumb. :(

The method I used on this was to cover the undersurface of the top wing and the top of the bottom wing, drill all the holes and then add rib tapes (from Eduard) Overlong pieces of monofilament were then threaded and glued to the top wing and the top surface repaired and touched up then varnished before finishing the decalling. This gave a finished top wing with lots of threads attached. Assemble the model/struts as usual and then thread each line through the appropriate hole only gluing when absolutely sure they were correct. ::) When everything was dry excess lines were trimmed, holes dressed and after varnishing the lozenge decals could be applied to the bottom surface of the lower wing.

Hope that helps
Paul

Have a go at one if you get the chance; it's the nicest KP kit I've tried so far and there are a few simpler schemes that could avoid the messing about with the wing lozenge  8)

That is really good. I too like the contrasts on the lozenge fabric and repairs. Nice to see a lesser known type represented.

Lovely work all round Paul, this is a little gem. The extra detailing adds a lot and you can actually see most of it! Looks great on the base as well.

Mind you, I think you misspelled some of the words on the rigging notes..... ;) ;D
