Shelf Queen 2025 Group Build. 1/72 Choroszy Misus-Aviatik G1
« on: January 28, 2025, 10:06:58 AM »
I would like to apologize for my absence and lack of comments on all your posts. I have loosely followed but have been bogged down with work and family.  Little time for modeling the last six months with only one competition to speak of.
With that said, here is my next endeavor. I have wanted to build this kit for some years now. This is quite complicated with intricate strut and engine mounts.

Seven bags of resin goodies to fret over.  All the parts are beautifully cast and detailed. The parts fit is excellent as expected from  Choroszy.

One small imperfection is the two fuselage halves are slightly warped at the tail

A quick bath in very hot water softened the resin enough to bend into shape.

The fit is good enough now. I think the CA glue will hold it sufficiently.

The interior is nicely designed but I added a few more framing touches with Evergreen strip.

Next, after priming with Tamiya white, I sprayed the base wood color (Tamiya dark yellow acrylic).

Next , after it dried, I added a liberal covering of Windsor Newton burnt umber artist oil paint.

I?ll let it dry for an hour or two before I start removing the oil paint with a dry soft bristle brush.

Thanks for looking in!
Tim

Looking forward to this Tim
(I've got the similarish Choroszy Friedrichshafen GIII on the shelf and although I've opened the box a couple of times it's still sitting there . . . .)

What a fantastic choice! I lusted over this kit many times when I was building 1/72 kits. You've made a great start.

Hi Tim, I have this kit amongst several other Choroszy's in my Stash.I had built The Friedrichshafen GIIIa as one of my first resin kits about 20 years ago and I'm still proud of it .
I'm looking forward on your build as a welcome motivation to start mine !

Thanks all for commenting on my build. Paul, hopefully I can inspire you to build the Friedrichshaven! Manaula, I?d really like to see your build also. I have that kit to build someday and would like to have more reference points.

I removed as much of the burnt umber paint as I thought looked appropriate with a dry brush. Frequently wiping it clean on a cloth. After it dried I began painting the interior details and slowly adding them. I added some brass photo etch instrument dials, wire chain to the steering columns, and Eduard PE seatbelts.
Next I began working on the two Austro Daimler 345 HP engines.

Almost ready to close the fuselage up.

Thanks for stopping in!

Tim

Fuselage: Part 4

The fuselage join was not exact as in test fits.
I imagine this was due to all the interior bulkheads and engines. The worst part was the bottom seam. I spent a lot of time filling in the gaps

After sanding I?m ready for primer to check the  bodywork.

Here?s the topside

Masked and primed with the fist coat of Tamiya white

Underside has this attached structure. I believe it?s a bomb rack of some kind. I?m unsure because it will be located directly above the suspended lower wing.

The body was base coated with Tamiya dark yellow. Next, individual panels were hand painted with thin coats of Tamiya deck tan and dark tan

Then each panel was painted with very thin coats of burnt umber artist oils. I varied the grain direction of panels.

Here?s the completed fuselage. I added more thinned coats of artist oils burnt umber till the panels looked more natural.
Prior to that I added nail heads with a rivet tool and dark pinwash to panel lines.
Finally sealed everything in with a coat of Future

Decals added.

Overall, I?m happy with the result. Next I?ll begin with the tail assembly

Thanks for looking in!
Tim

Wow Tim. That's looking great.
We were chatting at the show yesterday about this model being built and I can't recall ever seeing one before - each stage gets more exciting  8)

Holy Moly!  I just now found this! That's some beautiful wood-grain work for the scale. I'm still trying to get a handle on it. You've succeeded greatly here. Looking forward to the rest of it.
