Very nice outcome on your airship, Dirigible-Al! It certainly does look delicate and it's really neat to see an aircraft type that's rarely modeled despite their important place in history. Dave Wilson would've really liked this Zeppelin of yours. Well done!

Thanks Vickers
Thanks Allan
Well, Dave did get to see the Drachen so that's one lighter than air subject finished under his wing. The response to this has however inspired me to do more LTA subjects but in a larger scale.

Thanks RAGIII, PrzomoL and Nigel. I didn't expect much response because I basically gave up on it once I had it in a displayable state. It was a wise thing to do because in the finishing up stage I knocked of and lost one of the guns from the top, bent the PE leading to one of the propshafts and accidentally struck the rear gondola with a paintbrush dislodging the whole thing (but luckily still staying in place) and knocking of a radiator. Once those items were repaired and the gun re made from wire I could see this thing getting broken beyond repair. I think you are right Nigel about Zeppelins being interesting subjects. I put the pictures on Imgur to post on here and I got around three times as many comments on it. Such interest and on a site which is not in any way WW1 related has proven to me it would be worth doing at least one more but next time it will be in a larger scale so I don't have to deal with tiny, fiddly and fragile details.

Great job Alan.
I just finished this...

I want to do the Home Defense a/c like the BE2s that went up against these monsters. Warnefords a/c is next I think. I also did a quick calculation if I wanted to do one in my usual 1/48 scale. Um...no. I'm getting about 10 feet. I did the calc. with my much better half sitting near and she kinda nicely said absolutely no way on God's green earth....
Thanks,
Allan Buttrick

Why build the whole thing? If you want to build a Zeppelin killer just part of the underside of the Zep, maybe one of the gun positions or in the case of the Schutte Lanz one of the engine pods as they could be used as defensive firing positions. Without looking it up to confirm Warnford killed his one by dropping bombs on it from above. A zeppelin being flamed would make a great diorama but doesn't have to be 10 feet long.

Thanks Alan. I have about 15 of these prints and just added this one today.

I'm not a diorama guy so I would be building the entire ship. Maybe now is a good time to get back into the one-true-scale again after these several years.
As for a/c in 1/48, I am presently fondling another Nieuport 17 in Bishop colors and/or the MS type L that I would do that Warneford flew that night, and yes it was six bombs.

So many models, so little time.....
Thanks,
Allan Buttrick
