Late entry - 1/48 Eduard moraine-saulnier type n
« on: May 25, 2024, 01:45:07 AM »
Hi all - I’ve decided to clear the deck of my numerous and rarely finished projects and build (and finish!) a tribute to Dave. This will be my first 1/48 build and indeed first plane for a few years, so let’s see how we go. I’ll aim to keep this build simple and OBB if I can - finishing is the objective here.

I’ve forgotten how to post photos it’s been that long since i added anything to the forum -   I’ll sort that out a bit later and post the obligatory sprue shot i took this morning.

Cheers
Matt

Hi Matt
The Moraine N is a lovely little plane. What Eduard kit are you building, the old one with a billion pieces of PE or the newer release. If it is any help I post my pictures by firstly compressing them on a free online photo compressor to an acceptable size, save them to my gallery then attach them using the attachments and other options line.

ok - looks like I've worked it out! I think its the newer release? It really is a tiny plane - always loved it, even if it wasn't much fun to fly.

So some progress has been made. I've made a few attempts to improve a few details but its mostly a simply OBB.

The cockpit - a pretty simple affair! The closeups are a bit brutal but it looks ok to the naked eye I think - especially if they're as short sighted as me.

the wee engine...

and started on the wings.. I'm fairly happy with the results so far but a fair bit more to do on these.

Cheers all
Matt

Looks very sharply executed to me; I like the wood panelling and brass instruments in the cockpit, as well as the wing shading - well done sir!

Thanks all… a question… perhaps for Brad as you’ve already done a lovely one of these! Any advice on the rigging? I know the wing doesn’t have a lot to connect to and perhaps Frank suggested it needed structural rigging.. I’m wondering if a few dabs of superglue gel would suffice for using elastic ? For some reason I have more success with elastic… and any suggestions on what works well in 1/48 scale (using either elastic thread or monofilament)? New experience for me.

Cheers
Matt

If memory serves me right I did mine with elastic (at least the main wings) because the control lines went thru holes I drilled all the way through the wing. By using elastic there was no curve in it as it exited the wing holes each side whereas had I used mono it would have exited with a slight curve even if was really taught. I cannot remember if I put in superglue or not but I most probably would have. I definitely would have put pins in the wing for strength. I guess the best way depends on how you wish to attach the rigging too. I often use fuse wire on rigging that is outside, above or below the aircraft and secure it with white glue which looks good. Neither of these would give much structural strength, of course mono would. A thought I have just had is that I sometimes choose elastic on exposed rigging because if anything catches it during or after the build it is unlikely to punish you for it, I have been quite cruelly punished when I have done this on mono rigging and only today I had to re attach a wire rigged model that had a quite complicated piece knocked off.
Hope this helps, Alan.
