Sopwith 5F.1 Dolphin 1/32 Wingnut Wings
« on: February 15, 2024, 10:41:31 PM »
My 2nd string bag / Wingnut Wings kit - the Dolphin!

Really happy how this one turned out! Often theses stuff I really wanted to change on a model, but on this one it would be minor improvements for another build  :)

Originally I wanted to do a simpler build than my last (Albatros D.v.). The Dolphin on paper looked to be simple enough, but wow the looks were deceiving!
It has a really busy cockpit and a huge engine. The fit of some of this was troublesome.
Rigging was also much more involved then the Albatros. Only saving part was the lack of turnbuckles  ;D

For others building the kit in the future - be aware of brittle decals! I only nearly avoided disaster  :)

Rigging: Modelkasten 0.6 (0,13mm)
Tubes: Albion Alloys 0.5 / 0.3mm
Weathering: Oil paint + Enamel products.
Base: Popsicle sticks, AK terrain paste, Greenstuff World static grass.

That is one first class model. The fuel and other stains are so realistic. I would never have guessed that you had any problems with this kit. Congratulations.

Stephen.

I'm not a fan of the Dolphin but I greatly admire what you achieved with this build, Ben. Well done!

Oh lovely!

Wonderful job on your WNW Dolphin!

And yes, agree with you regarding fit of cowlings and brittle decals as I have also built this one in the past.

That's turned out really well, I am very jealous! Gload you were able to overcome the challenges with this one and produce an admirable end result.

WOW!  You built an impressive model.  Snap a photo outdoors and it would be hard to tell it from the real thing.

The pilot had his hands full with having to fly the plane (less than 15yrs after the flight in Kitty Hawk) and man 4 MGs while being shot at.

Nice work!

You got those decals to lay down nicely.  When I first looked, I thought you had painted the markings on.

Thank you very much Nigel, Dubar, Jimmy and Ed  :)

Im happy to have finished it! But ill definitely build something a little easier before going back to WW1.

I would like to try an outdoor picture, maybe once it finally stops raining  ;D
