WW1 aircraft Brussels Army Museum
« on: February 04, 2013, 08:25:58 AM »
Hi all,

paid a little visit to the army museum in Brussels (about 5 minutes away from my home)
The museum has an interesting collection of WW1 planes and artefacts. Some of the planes are still in unrestored condition, some others are restored or currently under restoration.
Apart from the aircraft hall, the museum has an enormous collection of WWI uniforms, weapons, tanks, cannons, etc.
If you ever plan to visit Brussels, make sure this museum is on your itinerary. (free admission by the way :-))

They have an LVG as well that is under restauration, but it wasn't accessible at this time.

If anyone want's close up pictures of any of the planes, let me know. I would be happy to help you out with that.

Regards

Philippe

This beautifully restored pre war plane was in the back of the hall, apart from the exhibition. Anyone who knows what it is?

Yes Philippe, it is a 1911 Battaille

Des.

A Halberstadt that will be restored soon. They took the wings off last summer. It still had the original lozenge.

registration code of the Halberstadt

Sopwith 1/1/2 strutter

Gotha bomber engine

Bristol fighter with Hispano Suiza engine

RE8

Schreck flying boat

Morane Saulnier

Another Morane Saulnier

German bombs (from a Gotha) in their original paint.

Thanks very much for posting these images, what a wonderful collection. I was very pleased to see the Caudron as this will be my next scratch build.

I'm seen quite a few photos of their Hanriot and Strutter, but most of the others are new to me. Thanks so much for posting these.

@Des: if you need close ups or measurements of the Caudron, let me know :-)

@ermeio: Yep, they sometimes close the first floor off because of lack of museum guards. Pretty annoying. Next time when you are in Brussels, let me know. Maybe we can meet up at the museum :-)

Cheers

Those are some amazing photos. Thank you so much for sharing them.  I love the Hanriot photos as well as the bombs from a Gotha. I would love to go to Brussels one day and visit the museum.

Thanks Flip.

What interests me is the battered state of the lower front cowl ring on the SPAD. I have an Eduard SPAD to build and if the kit part ended up anything like that I'd be cursing myself, adding filler and sanding down like a madman. Which just goes to show ...

Best wishes
Nigel

I was in this museum two times, 2010 and 2012. All this planes are very impressive  for me, especially elements of the German Zeppelin.
I also have a lot of pictures and if someone will need I can help.
