After picking up the kit of Max Immelmann's Fokker E.II during the last rash of available Wingnut Wings hit the hobby shops, I broke open the bag containing the resin figure to examine the quality of the casting. I did paint it up and posted it here:
https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=13929.0Realizing I'd basically started the model by opening the package, I decided to put it on the bench and work on it alongside of finishing my recent E.IV model.
I did notice a different in the quality of the parts with this later stamping compared to earlier releases I have of the Eindecker models. More flash, and some small parts weren't properly formed - more later.
So here are a few photos of the work on the propeller, which I usually start with. The propellers were fairly dark on these aircraft, but there was definitely evidence of lamination on the Germania propellers. To mimic this I base coated the part in a Tamiya acrylic tan colour, masked it and sprayed on a darker shade. After a gloss coat, I added/touched up the curved lines with Vallejo acrylic mixed to match, then added a diluted oil paint to stain it darker and add a wood grain look. It took a couple of oil paint applications before I was pleased with the dark colour.
Cheers,
Gary
