Thanks Zac, Dave and Rick!  Things have just gone slightly sideways but I haven't wrapped it around a tree yet!

So today I started trying to add the bottom wing and the struts.  Things went well with a simple jig and measurements from my 3-views seem spot on!  Correct dihedral, distances between planes looks good, trailing edge wing sweep-back is nice and parallel.  However..........

When I add my struts which are currently just thin wire, the printed position for the top wing underside is substantially off.  You can see the "Ugly" arrow where the strut is perfectly vertical, but the attachment point is off.  Plus, the struts are too short.  The shortness of the struts could well be my fault as making the center section trapeze could be slightly off.  Not too bad and doesn't look obvious at all.

But the strut location areas are odd to me.  I've never had this happen and when I look at the construction, I don't know how that would have crept in.  The center section and top wing panels are flush and the bottom wing locations are correct while the hull width is fine.  I just don't know where I got the error.  I doubt it's printed wrong but I guess it could be.  I'm too far down this road to worry about it though.

My plan is to simply relocate the top wing underside strut locations a smidge, make scratch struts, paint out the printed locations and it'll be just fine.  Certainly, the overall look and feel is awesome so I'm not worried if I'm off a bit.  Still looks like an elegant Lohner to me!

Anyway, I hope to at least get those bottom wings and struts started soon but now I do need to so some scratch fabrication.  No harm done.  We are model BUILDERS after all!

More soon...Dan

Success!  Got the bottom wing on and two sets of interplanes.  I needed to make the struts a tad longer so they are scratch built.  I also successfully made some new holes for the struts on the lower surface of the top wing.  It's straight and looks fine.  It also seems to match up ok with my 3-views so I'm not complaining. A bit of paint will hide some of the printed strut locations and all will be well...

Light at the end of the tunnel and it's not a train!

Thanks Andreas and Zac!  I've been busy at work and honey-do lists but I think I'll try to finish the struttery and rigging this weekend.  We'll see!

Didn't get quite as far as I'd hoped but not too shabby either.  Still need to finish the tip struts but at least I did make some headway this weekend.  Should be done pretty soon!

Thank you Jan and Rick!  WWI types really lend themselves well to paper...

I got a tad more done.  Lots more rigging and the last struts at the wing tips.  Aileron control cables, paint the struts at the tips, prop, a bit more rigging and some little details here and there.  Shooting to get it done by Monday but we'll see!

Thanks for looking...Dan

The rigging looks outstanding and should make for a sturdy cellule!

Incredible work Dan. The engine support structure and rigging are particularly nice!  Almost there now.

All the best,
Tim

Hello all...and thanks for the nice interest!  Just got back from a little 30th anniversary vacation to Juneau, Alaska and had a blast.  Taking the rest of the week off and one priority is this old Lohner.  Look for some shots of the finished article soon!

Thanks, Zac...we went to Juneau, Alaska.  It's very postcard picturesque once you get out of the town.  Not many people and just lovely.  We had nice weather too!

So here are some last detail shots to wet appetites.  Should be done later today or tomorrow at the latest.  You can see the windshield and scratch oil tank installed as well as the hand crank and the prop.  I am working on a little tank that fits on top of the center section and that will be the last detail.  Not sure what it is...rad overflow?  Anyway, it looks cool and will be the final addition along with some very subtle airbrushing here and there.

Thanks for looking...Dan
