Maybe you might want to apply a wash to the engine bay, too? I think this will diminish your feeling about a bad wash for the cockpit, as there will be less discrepancy?

The enine still looks ok. I would not change that, again.

Yes I will be applying a wash to the engine bay as well, hopefully it will be a bit more 'oily'.

Well the latest update will be some time coming, I'm gonna have to revert to the standby engine, the new engine has gone hopelessly wrong, I've never known more things go wrong on a build, ever, I just don't have any luck on Rolands at all.

Well, I've buttoned up the fusilage ok, it's painted and oiled, I'm using the reserve engine, hopefully pics will follow shortly.

Your clear varnish over unstained wood looks spot on, Pete. The contrast between the fuselage and the lightly golden-stained vertical tail surfaces adds a very nice touch. Lovely build you've got going here!

I'll add kudos as well Pete. If you have no luck with Rolands it's certainly not apparent here, the wood planking finish is exceptional! It's looking like a a very nice finished product to add to your display.

Hi Michael;

For the wood effect, I used Vallejo Model Air Sand (71075) for the base coat, then for the fusilage I used Winsor & Newton Griffon Alkyd fast drying oil colours, these are the ones that dry overnight, very useful, I mixed White and Burnt Umber to get the light effect and thin coated the fusilage, I added some more Burnt Umber to darken the mix a bit and put a few streaks on and brushed them in, I then let this dry overnight, then put some random dots of the mix on and using a very large dirt encrusted finger rubbed them in.
For the vertical tail, same base colour, then for the paint mix I used White and Raw Sienna using the same technique as the fusilage except for the large finger part.
