Hi Michael;
For the wood effect, I used Vallejo Model Air Sand (71075) for the base coat, then for the fusilage I used Winsor & Newton Griffon Alkyd fast drying oil colours, these are the ones that dry overnight, very useful, I mixed White and Burnt Umber to get the light effect and thin coated the fusilage, I added some more Burnt Umber to darken the mix a bit and put a few streaks on and brushed them in, I then let this dry overnight, then put some random dots of the mix on and using a very large dirt encrusted finger rubbed them in.
For the vertical tail, same base colour, then for the paint mix I used White and Raw Sienna using the same technique as the fusilage except for the large finger part.
