Airfix 1/72nd Me 109 E-4 JG2 " Richthofen " BoB
« on: December 15, 2022, 01:43:38 PM »
So due to Personal reasons I have been working on projects that require a bit less stress than 1/32nd WW1 Aircraft. This one and some that will follow is an OOB build. I have actually found the Airfix New tool kits to be quite nice and enjoyable to build.

Oh, and there is a Spitfire coming also  8)

We've missed your input over the last several months, Rick. Good to hear you back.
Cracking little BoB pairing.

Certainly haven't lost your touch Rick, very nice! OOB and a break back to less complicated subjects is good for the soul, and the modelling "mojo", I've been doing much of the same of late. Nice to see you active again!
Cheers,
Lance

Thanks Lance. I have decided to do most of the aircraft ( Major Players for sure) from the BoB. This Book is My Starting Point for Aircraft Types. A good source although the kits used back then have been replaced by Newer Molds  8)

I am going to add a few to this list and do a Blenheim Mk.1 instead of a 4  :o

Good too see you in action Rick! That is some nice looking mottling on the 109!

Airfix models was what I grew up with in the 80s. In my small world it took me along time before I realised there existed other brands. Nowadays I'm quite happy that Airfix's models are continuously getting better...

Take care!

Thanks Fredrik! The Mottle represents the sponged/scrubbed on type used by JG2. I don't think I have seen it on any other Units 109s. I also grew up on Airfix although in the 60s. Their WW1 kits were only $.29 at the local drugstore  8)

My son did the BoB participants in 1/48 a while ago and I was surprised when he showed me a Fiat Cr42 (I think). Evidently Mussolini sent a squadron to help his buddy Hitler, they made one attack, got shot up by Fighter Command and buggered off back to Italia!

Lovely work RAGman! I'm an unashamed fan of New Airfix and part of me wishes I wasn't so choosy in subject choice so I could build them all!

Thanks Zac! I plan to use Airfix for most of My builds providing there is a "New Mold" available. I have a Do17z on the way. Some things I will try to trade for. I do intend to get one of the New Spitfire 1b kits from Arma, I think. 19 squadron markings of course  ;D  When I get a Hurricane it will be 56 or 43 squadron!

That's a kit I've wanted for a while so I'm very excited to see your build!

Aldi in the UK are doing a selection of Airfix starter kits incl a Spitfire, Hurricane, Bf109 E, (and an Fw190) at half price, ie 6.99GBP. I bought a stack as stocking fillers!

Wonderful work on your 109, Rick -

If you had not said, I would have assumed a larger scale too!
