Revell 1/28 Dr1, 425, FINI, w/figure...
« on: November 24, 2022, 06:50:51 AM »
Many thanks to Ed Boll who wrote the article I followed while building this classic Revell.

Build log here:   https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=13471.0

This was huge fun. I'm glad I finally got around to doing this olde classic. This is as close as I think you can get to doing the original kit as Revell intended and be correct. All red with the Maltese crosses.

The only aftermarket used were some beautiful Model Monkey 3D printed Spandaus and I added foil belts. The guns still have missing ammo chutes as Revell intended.
This is 425/17 in its original form before they updated the crosses. Richthofen was later killed in this, his last triplane.

Some have said this a/c is 477 but I think WingNutWings has shown otherwise.

Of course this isn't a Roden or Meng but I was amazed how well done this kit was from 1957.

Wow Allan, you made short work of that. It looks really beautiful, the finish is stunning and I love how you replicated the flaked paint.

Great to see how they'd polish up - exactly what I would have been aiming for when I first had a go at building one of these  :)

It’s almost impossible to believe that this kit is from 1957. I‘ve seen it built many times but it never looked as great as your build. Amazing work!

Just seen this on Britmodeller funny enough, Allan -

Absolutely brilliant job on the Revell classic kit.   Your work demonstrates that these old kits still have life in them and rewards the modeller who puts in the effort.

Beautiful work on this venerable old bird. I remember building this kit as a kid back around 30 years or so ago.

What shade did you use for the red? It looks rather striking.

Cheers!

Nice modelling techniques and skill applied to and ancient old warhorse with great results.
You must tackle a new state of the art Eduard or Wingnut model now to do full justice to your abilities.
Great stuff 👍

Thanks everyone for the kind words.
Someday I will  do the other Revell 2 (3) 1/28 kits but they are big and shelf space is limited for the moment.
The red I used is Vallejo 71.102 and seems very close to what is the "average truth" on the www of the actual color of Richthofen red.
The camera brightened up the red a bit, the truest red colors would be the two close up engine shots.
Thanks again.
