I'm loving this project Allan. I made a squadron of those Aurora SE5a's back in the mid 60s when the moulds were repopped by Merit of Britain and RSL Classic in NZ. I think the kits cost 25c apiece in those days! It's great to see someone take the old kit and drag it into the 21st Century.

cheers

I'd love to get my hands on one of those to build to my best ability, and display with the box. Unfortunately they go for a little more than their RRP on TradeMe today!

Allen, any chance you have a build log for the Fokker?

Allan you Race Car Driver, you...

This is up to your normal high standards. Can't wait to see it all done.  Soon I hope.

Hi all, thanks for the kind comments.

Sadly, life has gotten in the way of this build, Dan correctly surmised I was off pursuing my other passion of racing, and I haven't had a chance in over a month to touch it.

Steve asked as to a WIP on the Fokker, I'm sure I posted something somewhere but Cranial Flatulence prevents me from finding something. So, in lieu of that, I have this:

https://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=22209

Very little was done to the kit. Corrected the nose, ignored the top wing. Strictly fun builds.

Drawings and photos gave me the correct shape to fix the kicked in chin. Styrene and Bondo.

I also added as a test, these wonderful 3D printed guns from Gas Patch, little marvels.

Gloss black with a dry brush of silver.

Step and lift rings replaced with wire, my experiment with replicating rigging with real spun wire is a fail, over-sized.
I somehow have no pics at all of how I did the lettering on the top wing, sorry.

Top wing photo retouched here for more family friendly viewing.

I am circling the build desk and will resume building the SE5 very soon, then perhaps the Monogram Camel.

Thanks for your patience.

Nice save on the chin cowl Allan!

I wish I could say how happy it makes me, as a big fan of the novel, to see "the Mensroom Ace"'s machine built!

Sorry it's been so long, build pace is picking up now that I'm home.

The "average truth" for a good "Natural Linen" color on the .www seems to be FS33695. I started with that in the Vallejo line and added some white for the ribs and started playing.

I sprayed the beige/white as a base, masked the ribs then shot straight beige.

PC10. Here we go. I know there are two very passionate groups out there in the world. The GreenPC10's and the BrownPC10's. I'm a brown.
With all the colors that Vallejo offers, I'm sure there is a perfect match right out of the bottle but this is the recipe I came up with using Vallejo paints.

71.029-Dark Earth-----10 drops
71.036-Mahogany ------5 drops
71.294-US forest Grn---3 drops

See what I did there? I added green....This is close, I think I want to add more mahogany for the next build. I took this, added white and masked the ribs then shot full PC10 over that.

A little too much contrast so I will soften the ribs with a misting of straight PC10.

Decals and weathering next. Hopefully I can post more than once every 2 months.....

Only just found this: an excellent log on a truly old kit. It is surprising how, with a little patience and attention to detail, these old kits can be transformed into first rate models.

I softened the rib contrast with some PC10 misted over.

I was pleased someone in Germany sent me some original Revell decals for this kit and as luck would have it they are for Mannocks a/c, the one I was kinda thinking about doing but these decals made up my mind.
