Author Topic: Pfalz DIII of Hans Klein: New Theory? (Read 3444 times)

The Markings on the Pfalz of Jasta 10 Leader Hans Klein has gone through three theories now.
1. The Stripe was Jasta 10 Yellow
2. The Stripe was darker than the Yellow nose so Black was thought to be correct
3: Now this:

This is why I Love WW1 aircraft markings

Any thoughts ?

Yes, this stood out to me too.
I went with black, but if there is proof that it is indeed red I'm happy to know.

Bob,
I don't actually have the book but a friend has sent me the relative info in the form of scans. My understanding is that red is based on the following:
1. The stripe appears darker than the chrome yellow but lighter than the black crosses.
2. Apparently Klein used red stripes on an earlier Albatros DV while with Jasta 4
3. He served in a regiment that had red hat bands as their color.
All Very circumstantial but I like the red so will probably go that way. Remember that Greg van Wyngarden in his usual style said the stripe was "Probably" black

The red certainly brightens things up. It does take some getting used to after black being the "Norm" for years!

Yep! One could actually make an argument for any of the three choices...even Jasta 10 yellow

But as you have seen, I Like the RED!
