Ltn Eugen Siempelkamp's Pfalz
« on: April 30, 2022, 12:23:36 PM »
Eduard has released Siempelkamp's "Tatzelwurm" Pfalz as a weekend edition.  Eduard & Peddinghaus decal profiles show this aircraft with a yellow nose.  Pheon Decals show an all-green fuselage.

There also is a disagreement as to whether the upper wing surface was painted green or 5-color lozenge.

Any suggestions, opinions or other source observations?  I really like the yellow nose profile.

TIA

Bruno Schmaeling’s Jasta Colors Volume 1 Profile 49 (p. 199) & photos (p.197-200) show yellow nose with Loz on upper/lower surfaces of both wings and stabilizer.

Schmaeling probably is the way to go, as he derived his information from the pilots he interviewed personally.

Thanks for the reply.  I may have to step up for Schmaeling’s Jasta Colors.   Thanks again

I’m not sure about the actual color scheme of this aircraft but agree with Rick on liking the yellow nose and lozenge wings. I have the 1/72 Peddinghaus decal set and will be interested in watching your progress if you should consider posting in progress pics.

Thanks,
Tim

Jasta 29 definitely yellow cowl & nose area, mid green upper fuselage & tail. Black and white belly stripes (or in the case of  the Pfalz D.IIIa aircraft just black stripes on silbergrau.

Found a color reference drawing and actual photos of Siempelkamp's plane here:

https://flyingmachines.ru/Site2/Crafts/Craft25481.htm

Just scroll down the page until you see the paper dragon images.

I purchased both of Schmaeling’s Jasta Colors books several months back, excellent reference material!!!

Interesting that this photo suggests the yellow nose demarcation (just over the pilot's right shoulder and aft of the aircraft's cabane strut) is much narrower than the profile in Schmaeling's book

the darker band your talking about on the fuselage is most probably the shadow of the upper wing and not a demarcation of color. As Schmaeling explains in the book the color demarcation is nearly impossible to distinguish between the green and the yellow without tinkering with the photo. Thats why originally it was thought this aircraft was one solid color (green).
